I tried the grease cutting soap to no avail. Decided it needed a more aggressive approach. Since the suggested cause was grease, I decided to try my automotive brake cleaning spray. That did not wash the surface but it did soften the surface enough to discover the culprit was a deteriorated coating Farberware put on the handle. The brake cleaner was effective in softening the coating such that I could use my finger nail to scrap it off. I now have a smooth non sticky handle.

I used rubbing alcohol on a terrycloth rag and it worked great for getting the stickiness off of the handles of my Farberware pots and pans. I should have worn some kind of alcohol resistant gloves so my fingers wouldn’t have dried out and turned white as if I had paint on them.

SOURCE: How to clean sticky ceramic fry pan

DO YOU MEAN A CAST IRON PAN OR NON STICK? If it is not stick you have to use a chemical that will remove glue from any object and then rinse well. Do not scrap. Let soak in for about 15min. and then scrub with a kitchen dish scrubber. This may help.

The rubber handle on my frying pan has become sticky

Wash it very well in as hot a water as you can handle using Dawn Dish soap, rinse in as hot a water as you can handle and dry immediately. Re-was as necessary to remove the stickyness.

Persistently loose handle on a 20+yr old 9' fry pan

What has happened is the threaded hole the screw goes into had 'stripped out'. The best option is to fill the threaded hole with epoxy, and put the screw back in, tightening it well and letting the epoxy cure. The only alternative is to thread the hole to a larger size, and use a larger screw.
