SOURCE: AT BOOT MY COMPUTER READS NTLDR IS MISSING PRESS

Pretty much what lyzmorato said , except its taken me ages to type it :)
Are you using XP or Vista ? NTLDR missing means when your pc/laptophas started up it has tried to do the NTLDR check which basically looksat the hard drive on your computer and just confirms its o.k
THere can be a number of causes for a missing ntldr
1. Computer is booting from a non-bootable source.
2. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
3. Corrupt NTLDR and/or NTDETECT.COM file.
4. Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file.
5. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32.
6. New hard disk drive being added.
7. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record.
8. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
9. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable.
Ideally you should go through all these options , but if you have alaptop it can be difficult to take a part and check all the connections.
If you are not really computer literate I suggest you get someone whois to follow this guide, of seek help from a technician as this can bea little tricky. This is quite a long one!

When I had this message coming up on my pc it turned out that my harddrive was toast , so prepare yourself for that in a worst casescenario. You may want to remove your HD and back it up now if youdon't want to risk losing any data
Have you made any major changes , recently changed operating system or installed new software? Am assuming you are using XP
Hopefully your hard drive is not broken, and somehow these file havebeen deleted or corrupted, First things first, make sure you haven'tleft a cd or 3.5" disk in your machine that it might be trying to bootfrom
ONce you have made sure there is nothing inserted in the machine , youare going to need to access the bios settings on your machine,
Watch your pc as it boots up at the start , it should give you anoption to press a key to enter bios settings , press this key(sometimes its F2)
Within the BIOS menu, there should be a section that deals with theboot order of your pc , you need to change it so it boots from yourcd-rom first (if you dont understand what i mean by this check thislink
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/ss/bootorderchange.htm)
Remember to note down the drive letter of your cd-rom drive as you will need this later mine for example is D:
After you have done this stick in the Windows setup cd and restart your pc
When the welcome screen comes up press R on your keyboard to enter the recovery console
It may ask for an administrator password, if you haven't changed it just press enter
then type in these commands
COPY X:i386NTLDR C:
COPY X:i386NTDETECT.COM C:
Where the X is you need to substitute that letter for your cd driveletter so as I said earlier mine was D: , so on my pc it would read
COPY D:i386NTLDR C:
COPY D:i386NTDETECT.COM C:
(the c: represents your hard drive if it is different from c: you need to change it to whatever it is )

then take out the CD ROM and type exit
then restart
your pc. If this doesn't work you can always formatt your HD andre-install windows, I did this and it worked for about a daybutbecause my hard drive was corrupted the ntldr messga returned and Ieventually had to resort to buying another HD which sorted the problemfor me

How do i get missing ntldr back

you are missing a key boot file for windows that is special to XP.

Load your installation disk.
.
restart your computer and when the F2 setup appears in right bottom corner (right after starting) press the F8 key (couple of times) and choose CDrom drive. (if you miss, try CTRL ALT DELETE--to reboot and try again.

(if that does not work, you will have to go into F2 setup and tell the computer to boot from the CDROM--you will find it by looking on each tab for a list of CDROM, Hard Drive, and listing of boot disk priority. Save you change by exiting BIOS set with F10.

At this point you can choose R for repair.
windows should repair itself. Once done, PC will reboot and you should be good.

** if other files are suddenly missing or other weird things, I would recommend a new install of windows. You should have up to date files for antivirus and malware.

When uploading windows 7 I get a message: Can't load windows at this time because of a hardware configuration problem or I get missing NTLDR how do i fix this?

First make sure there are no Disks in any of the drives CD , Floppy and Usb
Computer is booting from a non-bootable source. Computer hard disk drive is not properly setup in BIOS.
Corrupt NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM file.

Misconfiguration with the boot.ini file. Attempting to upgrade from a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer that is using FAT32

New hard disk drive being added. Corrupt boot sector / master boot record. Seriously corrupted version of Windows 2000 or Windows XP. Loose or Faulty IDE/EIDE hard disk drive cable Failing to enable USB keyboard support in the BIOS. Many times this error is caused when the computer is attempting to boot from a non-bootable floppy disk or CDROM First verify that no FLOPPY DISKS or CD is in the computer, unless you are attempting to boot from a diskette Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive including IDE,SATA if ita flat 40 pin ribbon type it will be the first to fail. The leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure dust free connections and are not faulty Make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections Computers need power and data to travel through every working device and continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

also When NTLDR is missing from your operating system it means that there is a problem with your boot loader, a bootstrap process that begins when you turn on the computer. A missing NTLDR means that your computer cannot boot to the operating system. This issue is only a problem on computers running Windows XP or previous operating systems as Windows 7 and Vista don't utilize NTLDR. Fixing the missing NTLDR is relatively easy so long as you have your installation disc.
Locate your Windows XP/2000 installation disc and place it in your CD/DVD ROM drive. If you don't have this disk, then you cannot proceed further. Restart your computer. When the computer restarts press any key on your keyboard when you are prompted, "Press any key to enter setup." Most computers are configured to boot to another device other than a hard drive. Since the Windows XP/2000 installation disk is bootable, you should see the prompt. However, if you don't see the prompt you may need to change your boot priority in your BIOS. To do so, enter the system BIOS by following the onscreen instructions upon startup. Then navigate to the Boot Priority menu and modify another device, such as a CD-ROM to boot prior to the hard drive. Then reboot your computer. After you have pressed any key, the Windows XP/2000 setup screen will appear. After loading, press the "R" key to repair the Windows installation. The screen will appear black. The computer requests which installation you would like to log in. Generally speaking, press "1" and "Enter." If you have more than one hard drive or more than one partition, the procedure may be different. You must know which hard drive or partition your Windows operating system is installed in. You are subsequently prompted for a password. If you haven't set up one up, you can just leave the query blank and press "Enter." The phrase "c:\WINDOWS>" and a blinking cursor subsequently appear. Type "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\windows" (without quotes), where "D" is the letter of your CD/DVD ROM drive (your optical drive may be different, especially if you have more than one). Eject the CD from the drive and type "Exit" (without quotes) to restart your computer. The NTLDR file will be copied from the installation disc to your hard drive.
or If you've started your Windows XP computer and you see an error message to the effect that the "NTLDR" file is missing or corrupted, you've probably also noticed that the computer refuses to boot any further. This is because the NTLDR file is an integral part of the boot process and needs to be restored before the boot process can proceed normally.

Insert your Windows XP disc into your computer. Restart the computer and press any key on your keyboard when the message prompting you to do so appears. Press the "R" key to open the Recovery Console and then press "1" and "Enter" in order to select your operating system. Type in your Administrator password (if needed) and press "Enter." Type "copy d:\i386\ntldr c:\" and press "Enter" and then type "copy d:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\" and press "Enter." Restart your computer and let it boot up normally. Since the NTLDR is freshly restored, the computer boots up properly. b> b>

NTLDR missing on XP desktop

NTLDR is the boot loader for windows XP. This is the part the kick starts the entire process of XP loading. It is located at C:\NTLDR One of the easier ways to fix this is Either boot in to the recover console from a Windows XP disc, or download Hiren Boot CD, burn it to a disc. Insert the CD into your Dell and reboot the computer. Note you may need to enter BIOS and enable boot to CD/DVD. Once at the Hiren menu, select Boot Mini XP. Once the Mini XP loads you can copy NTLDR loader from the mini xp to your C:\ drive. Then remove the disc and reboot the computer.

Dell 100l ntdrl missing on start up

Hi,
For some reason your boot files are missing.
ntldr ( NT loader ) is one of the main boot files that is missing.
possibly a boot sector virus.which corrupts the ntldr file.

Put the disc back in, and you can choose to either install the O/S, or you can repair the current O/S, go for the repair,

Should resolve the problem,

Then run a full system vius scan,

Should be good then
