No sound unless VIDEO signal is plugged into receiver

HTR-6130 No Audio I want to hook up my dvd player as follows DVD->DigitalCoAx->Receiver DVD->rca video->TV When I do this the receiver shows 2.0 sound input but doesn't produce any audio. IF I move the rca video cable to receiver as follows DVD->rca video->Receiver The receiver now shows 3/2/.1 input and correctly outputs 5.1 sound. Can anyone explain why the receiver forces the video signal to go through it? I would prefer not to put the video through the receiver and go directly to the TV

    My initial post was one long line and hard to read, cleaned it up:

    I want to hook up my dvd player as follows

    DVD->DigitalCoAx->Receiver
    DVD->rca video->TV

    When I do this the receiver shows 2.0 sound input but doesn't produce any audio.

    IF I move the rca video cable to receiver as follows
    DVD->rca video->Receiver
    The receiver now shows 3/2/.1 input and correctly outputs 5.1 sound.

    Can anyone explain why the receiver forces the video signal to go through it?

    Yo would think so, but I only get 5.1 when the video is also hooked into the receiver. If video bypasses receiver and is plugged directly into the TV I only get 2.0 sound from the receiver, without changing anything in regards to the digital coax

    No it's brand new in the box...also still within the 30 day 'no hassle' return period....I'm thinking the same thing....take it back while I still can

Connect the DVD player audio with digital coax into the digital audio connection as you described and the DVD video directly to the TV. Now switch the input mode on the receiver to DVD. Then switch the video output mode on the TV to correspond to the input you plugged into. Any source in 5.1 dolby digital or dts should now work properly and have picture too.

    Is it a rebuilt model? It needs to be brought in for service.

No sound on DVR HDMI port, but does work on other HDMI port

Not all HDMI ports support Audio or they do but only one way Audio out or Audio In. If you have an optical connection you can try that.

Yamaha HTR -6130 DTS?????

First, the sound source must also be in DTS. DTS is typically not the default audio selection on any DVDs that have that format...you'll have to select it.

No Dolby Digital through DVD player

Have you configured the digital output settings on the DVD player? You may need to set the digital output format in the DVD player setup menu. If it is set for LPCM then you won't get sound. It has to be set for bitstream and yoou may need to tell the player what output to use.

As you didn't mention the brand of DVD player, I can't really give you any detailed instructions.

Also try using the optical cable that you have connected to the cable box to test it and see if you get any output on that connector. If yyou do then it is a setting in the amp that is not configured properly,

Best of luck

Laptop into my YAMAHA HTR-6130 Receiver has Static

One possible reason would be a damaged ground in the cable (check with a DVD/CD player or any other device if possible to see if static persists.) if it is not the cable, then try plugging the laptop into the same power outlet as the Yamaha receiver and see if static persists. if static no longer persists, the problem is a discrepancy in the grounding on either end causing static in the signal and you can either buy a filter at most electronic stores. or you can just continue to use that power outlet if it is not an inconvenience. if it IS the cable, well, replacing it should be fine.

Remap digital audio on Yamaha HTR-6130

Actually I found in the sound menu on the receiver that there is an input source setting changer for the 3 digital audio inputs. Also you can change the names of the other inputs to match your components needs.

Good work Yamaha.

WE PURCHASED A YAHAMAHA HTR-6130 TODAY

You may need to set up the receiver for your speaker configuration. There should be a setup menu on the receiver, and that will allow you to tell the amp what speakers you are using, and what inputs you are connecting what devices to. You may also need to set your DVD player, cable box and TV for the audio stream you want to use. PCM or Bitstream to be more precise. Also make sure that the sound output is set to Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital and the input signal is in stereo or surround.

Best Wishes.

Yamaha HTR-6130 Front right and left speakers with no sound

As simple as this sounds, try hitting the speaker a/b button on the front of the unit, next to the headphone jack. I had the same problem, and was about to package the whole thing back up and go back to Best Buy when I hit this button and then the audio test worked.
