My sandisk mp3 player will not delte music

You probably noticed that the directions for deleting in the manual simply don't work, the option isn't there. There are still a couple ways to do it.

Connect the player to your computer, navigate to the device and select the files you wish to delete, then press delete. Somewhat time consuming if you have a lot of files.

Another way is use Windows Media Player to sync the device. Load your library with the files you want on your player, then sync. WMP will delete all files on the player now, and put only the files you have selected on the player.

Problems deleting songs with the help of Media Player...

The manual is fraught with errors on the deleting music page - including the fact that it references p.24, when the answer is on p.23 - but it suggests that you can only delete songs from the player itself or from Windows Explorer:
Delete Song
1. In playback mode, press submenu.
2. Select the Delete Song item.

or p.32 for delteing from Windows Explorer

I can think of at least 2 other reasons why you are not able to delete the songs as normal in Windows Media Player:
The hold or lock switch is engaged on the Sansa

The following is an EXTREME solution that I would not reccomend:
try this fix from Microsoft themselves (it is very lengthy - too long to reproduce in full here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925718/en-us

Short version:
To resolve this problem, clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps: 1. Exit Windows Media Player. 2. For Windows XP:

Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.

For Windows Vista:

Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK. 3. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.

Note You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder. 4. Restart Windows Media Player.

Note Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.

Everytime I reset my philips gogear HDD6330 there are still folders in the player and I want to just delete everything, reset my mp3 player and be able to load songs on it again. everytime the first song...

Use the Device Manager to "repair" the device. This will delte all your songs and start you from scratch. If you have Windows Media Player 11 installed on your computer, uninstall it and rollback to Media Player 10 - this was most likely the original source of your problem. Go to www.usasupport.philips.com and enter your model number in if you don't believe me (and for instructions on rolling back).

DO NOT DELETE THE FOLDERS, or your Mp3 player will be gone beyond repair. There are critical files in there.

Delete songs

Connect the player to the PC, and open Windows Media Player, as though you are going to load tracks.

In the player window, highlight the tracks you wish to delete and press DEL.

You can also delete all tracks by running the Philips Device Manager from the product CD, and selecting Repair / Restore.
