Control panel. Try to push cancel button to see if it resets.if not google it and they will walk you through it.

The main board sends power to the display lights. Check with a multimeter for voltage coming out of the main board to the display board. If no voltage the main board is bad or the fuse is bad.

Most Whirlpool manufactured dishwashers have a thermal fuse, located inside the operator console. When tripped, the dishwasher will not run. A power outage can cause the thermal fuse to trip. It cannot be reset and has to be replaced, if bad. Please post back with your COMPLETE MODEL NUMBER (located around the door opening) so I can determine the configuration of your dishwasher and explain how to access any potential fuses. -->

i would check the fuse fist to establish if there is power to the appliance first

This unit has a fuse which is clipped on to the top of the electronic control. If you have an ohm meter, check this for continuity, or with a volt meter check for 120 volts across the the fuse. If you have line voltage or no continuity then replace the fuse.

You have a bad fuse in the control and needs to be replaced.

The fuse is in the control panel on the right hand side after you open the panels 6 screws.
The replacement fuse kit comes with a wire harness that must be used to prevent the new fuse from blowing.

There is a thermal fuse in the top right corner of the control panel that will need to be replaced.

there is a thermal fuse attached to the main control, check for continuity if none replace fuse.

I have had the same problem with my the same dishwasher. The manual says that "the dishwasher has malfunctioned. Call service to check heater element". I called service and they are saying that replacing the heater element and possibly the electronic panel may be required. Total cost (part + labor) = $350-400!! I am very very upset with Whirlpool right now.
