I have had this printer for about 8 months and had no problems until now (except for some initial vista compatibility issues that were easily resolved with a driver install.) Today when I tried to print a document (multiple attempts, by the way) I was repeatedly informed that the printer was offline and I needed to plug it back in. Well I tried that several times ? unplugging the cord from the printer and the power source, re-plugging it all back in. But the printer still will not turn on and come "online." My only thought is that I did lose power today for a few hours ? and maybe that scrambled the printer somehow. But everything else in the system works just fine. Any thoughts? Other ideas?
I had this same issue. Lost power in the house for just a second, but after the printer would not turn on. I think that the loss of power caused the printer to get stuck in a locked state. Tried everything I could think of including changing outlets that the printer was plugged into but nothing seemed to work. Saw a troubleshooting tip on the Canon webpage about unplugging the unit for 5 minutes and thought it was hooey, but tried it anyway. Ended up leaving the unit unplugged for probably 15 minutes and when I re-plugged it in it fired right up.
My Canon MP600 wouldn't start after power outage. It now works after at least 5 min. unplugged. Apparently has to do with the time unplugged empties the capacitor.
