How to change a vtech phone to tone - Vtech Lands Phones

Well, cannot find ia5862...but from ia5863 which must be similar; Manual at http://www.scribd.com/doc/64707312/Vtech-Phone-Ia5863-Manual-r2, it says... Set the dial mode

Hope it helps, sounds like the phone should ALREADY be on tone dial out of the box.

Vtech phones are junk! I have had many trouble calls for no dial tone,only to find out the Vtech phone is the only one they have,and it is defective.(It really DOES pain me to bill someone 91 dollars to tell them their 21 dollar phone is broken-always try another(preferably hard-wired) phone before calling the phone company!

Since you declined to specify the model of your VTech 5.8GHz phone, I can only suggest that you enter it into the search box here to download a copy of the manual. The manual will describe how to switch between pulse and tone dialing.

Press MENU/SELECT to display menu when in idle mode.

Press up/down to reach Setup BS. Press MENU/SELECT.

Press up/down to reach DIAL TYPE. Press MENU/SELECT

A checkmark is shown next to the current selection. Press up/down to choose between tone and pulse. Press MENU/SELECT.

The screen displays Stored and youll hear a confirmation beep.

There's a switch on the bottom of the base unit to switch between tone and pulse. It's marked "18" in the illustration on page 6 of the manual at

vtech are not very good u mite need another fone

Here are the instructions for one vtech phone (may not be quite the same as yours but may work or give enough hints for you to figure it out):
Press PROG.•
Press ? or ? until the screen displays DIAL MODE: and the current setting.
Press SELECT. The current setting blinks.
Press ? or ? to select TONE or PULSE.
Press SELECT to save.

Use the following steps:

1. Press the program button on the handset.
2. Use the up/down arrow keys until you see dial mode.
3. Press the select button and use the up/down arrow keys to change it to pulse.
4. Press the select button. You will hear the phone beep which indicates it has been changed.

To switch back to tone dialing, hold down the SELECT button for couple of seconds. The display on the base unit will read PU indicating pulse dialing. Now press and hold SELECT to change it to TN (Tone dialing).
