I actually have 2 nc6120 notebooks, one works perfectly, the other refuses to allow its wireless and bluetooth to be turned on (normally done by a button near the screen)
so far, i have tried swapping the harddrives, thinking maybe a driver problem. i have tried swapping the button panels that have the wireless button on them, thinking maybe the button or chip was faulty. and i have tried swapping the wireless mini pci cards.
but no success. the problem stayed with the motherboard each time
i also checked the cmos setup and the wlan card and bluetooth are both enabled there
this isn't the first time i've encountered this problem, i have another nc6120 and an nc8430 with the exact same problem
any help would be greatly appreciated
To kickstart the wireless and make it work again on the nc6120's.
Turn on the computer and hit F10 to go into the BIOS.
Go up under File and choose Restore Defaults.
Save your changes and reboot your OS.
If your using Windows, you should be able to pick a wireless network now.
If you previously had a WEP or WPA pw key set, you may have to re-enter
it again as it was cleared out during the reset.

Try to uninstall and reinstall the wireless and bluetooth software.
If all fails try a windows repair install.
what other devices are connected to the computer that doesn't work?
Does it happen with the battery and without the battery?
It's somehow pointing to a bad motherboard.
If you try to enable the device in device manager does it enable ?
Try it in Safe Mode also.
Does it still have warranty?
looks like it might be the connectors on the motherboard that are conflicting or failing.
Only other possibility would be to update or reflash the bios file as it couldbe corrupt somehow.

I had the same exact problem. I had reloaded drivers for the wireless, quick launch buttons, flashed the bios and even replaced the wireless card. After all this I uninstalled the software for the hp wireless assistant and quick launch buttons and under the advanced tab in wireless properties I turned power on to the card. After that everything worked exactly as it should including sound and wireless button.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

i've already tried putting a perfectly working nc6120 hdd into it (swapped from a working machine) to no avail
the device manager in both machines (working and not working) matched exactly, except for the bluetooth (which is disabled in the non working machine)
all other devices seem to work fine, no problems in device manager
just tried without the battery and same story
palaboy do you mean the mac addresses? yes, they are different
they are both set to automatically obtain an ip address, but my problem isnt connecting to my network, my problem is that the wireless and bluetooth are essentially disabled. (the laptop doesnt see the hardware)
the device is already enabled in device manager, i also tried disabling and re-enabling it.
safe mode also doesnt work
theres a led on the wireless button that is on when the wireless is enabled.
on the laptop that works, that light can be switched on and off before the OS even loads (even from cmos setup).
on the laptop that doesnt work, it doesnt come on at all.
this tells me it isnt a driver or windows problem
warranty expired in feb
already checked the bluetooth and wireless are enabled in bios
and adding a usb network card defeats the purpose, as i am trying to fix it for resale
if anything apart from the wireless card is preventing it from getting on the network, it would be a software problem that would have been resolved when i swapped the hard drive with one from my fully functioning unit (which is still fully functioning and connecting to the network despite having the other unit's hdd)
also, i can connect to the network using the ethernet port
tried flashing the bios with the latest update, still no effect. i agree that it probably is a motherboard or connector issue
