Jerky pointer and freezes

They say to err is human, but to really mess things up takes a computer. Nothing is more frustrating than to have a computer freeze, shut off with no warning, or, worse, crash completely. One of the more common errors a PC will give you is the freezing of the monitor. With a few simple troubleshooting tips, you can overcome that.

Press Crtl-Alt-Delete (at the same time). This will give you a box generally used to terminate programs. Using the arrows, if you can, shut down all programs running (i.e., Word, Internet Explorer, etc.). Sometimes, it is an error within the programs or with your computer trying to process them all at once that causes your computer to freeze. This is especially true if you have low RAM (anything less than 500 or so MB or RAM). Turn off your computer and restart it. Many times this will end whatever error up above was causing it to drag. If the computer is still frozen when it comes back on, go on to the next steps. Press the tower's power button and hold on to it until the entire system shuts down. Turn off the main power switch and turn it and the computer back on. Sometimes a computer only looks like it is shutting down, but in actuality is not. This should solve the problem. If it doesn't, move on to the next steps. step 4. Try a different mouse. If you have a mouse that connects to a PS2 port, the mouse could be bad. If the mouse doesn't work in that port, the port may be bad, too. Many times people only think their computer is frozen, but really the mouse doesn't work. step 5. Try connecting a USB mouse into a USB port. If it works, you now know that either your PS2 mouse or port are bad. If you have a USB mouse to begin with, try connecting it into another USB port, since the original port may be bad. Try Steps 4 and 5 for the keyboard as well. Take it to a computer doctor, or to the technical department at the store where you purchased it. If none of the above work, you have a bigger problem on your hands. Your computer may be in the initial stages of crashing.

clean out the bottom of your mouse even if its optical and try it on a different surface

did water get on the track pad? Try connecting an external mouse to get control over your pointer, and navigate to system preferences/track pad. See if you can play around with the settings, but if the external mouse works ok, it sounds like water may have come in contact with your track pad.

Is it wireless mouse or usb? or serial connector? if its usb mouse try to use different usb port and check the status, if its wirless it will be connection or battery problem, try to charge it, if its serial connecter try change the mouse . Or use the keyboard port for mouse and see the difference. if all this not work let me know so i can show you the windows steps in order to fix it.

Just took it apart and cleaned the ball thanks anyway

Try using a different Mouse Pad or surface. This is a cause of jerky and erratic mouse movement.

if you know how to boot up the computer and get into the bios than click on bios set up feature look for the ps2 and mouse and ensure it is set to auto and also there is a feature for turning on and off the usb ports in bios too so check to see that this is enabled then reboot this should help please let me know ok good luck
