When would the timing belt need to be changed new car has 53,000 miles on it.

Don't run the belts over 100k. It's a lot cheaper to have belt changed than head problem later on. Most engines with belts have interference heads which means if belt slips or breaks you will bend some valves. Very costly repair. Better to change early instead of being sorry. Lot depends on how long you plan on owning vehicle. Hope this helps, Stan

Why would a reasonably new mower belt be slipping

could be a few things, (1) is the belt designed for use on mower, car fan belts are not the same material (2) was new belt installed to tight to begin with if so it will stretch out and slip ( 3) is mover over used to it's designed purpose , I once new a guy that used his craftsman mower to move his 22 foot boat/trailer around he went thru lots of drive belts
and last but not least that cheaper belt might not be the best deal when getting replacement parts , all mine have 30 dollar kevlar belts (yes the bulletproof stuff) installed on them and i've no problems with belts

The new timing belt jumped

no it is not. (late answer) is this a double post?

all timing belts jump,
1: every 60k miles for most. ever read the service list.
some top quality belts go bad at 100k miles. so.....????

Honda uses an "interference" engine design.
do not skip this service, or the whole engine can grenade !!!
honda quote, pasted.
However, since these engines utilize an interference design, it is highly recommended to at least inspect the timing belt at 60,000 mile (96,000 km) intervals. It is an even better idea to replace the belt at these intervals. On 1990-94 models, Honda recommends the timing belt to be replaced at 90,000 mile (144,000 km) intervals. On 1995 models, the recommended interval is 60,000 miles (96,000 km).end quote.

and if the last guy put in a POS china belt, well, you are hosed.
no name belts are junk, never ever use one,
BTW i run Gates belts.

I have a 2000 crv with a squealing belt. All belts were replaced and within a month doing it again. Everytime it's started cold it squeals. We listened to Honda and used genuine Honda belts but the...

best to check the tension on the belt... unfortunately if this has been going on for a while you may need a new belt yet again do to the squealing is the belt slipping and wearing out the belt.

O.k. easy way to check the tension on a serpentine belt is try to get a 1/4 turn out of twisting the belt. literally take your fingers and twist the belt 1/4 twist. if all you get is less than a 1/4 then you your belt is too tight and gonna wear out your bearings in all your components, how ever if your getting more than 1/4 maybe like a full 1/2 turn its way too loose and will slip at start up like that.

Not sure of the year but my Super 9 that I bought new a year ago seems to slip a little and a getting a vibration may be from the belt. A Kymco dealer on the phone thinks that the mfg. puts too much grease...

Hi,
Looks like your torque pulley, located at the rear that drives the axle/wheel has the problem.
The friction material or clutch is already worn out and started to slide. Any motor bike tech can replace it with similar part or better buy an aftermarket racing clutch w/ spring that is much better and stronger than the stock parts.
Hope that helps you out.

What makes a belt squeak?

Belts squeak for the same reason tires do when they spin. They are slipping. Something isn't turning as fast as the belt wants it to. On ford it's usually ether the idler sprocket or the tensioner. If you remove the belt and try spinning all of the pulleys by hand.( note the crank wont spin freely) you will usually be able to tell witch ones slipping.

Replaced pressure line on power steering. now battery light comes on. belt squeeled when started, then stopped. Did power steering fluid get on belt and caused it to squeal and slip?

If you have a 4cyl then the belts for PS and alternator are separate. Taking a peek under the hood when the engine is running should give you a better idea if a belt is slipping, broken, etc. A common source of squealing is an alternator belt that is too loose and slips under heavy load charging the battery after startup. It's possible that some sort of problem happened due to replacing alternator belt but that belt slipping should be pretty easy to see. (again ... speaking of the 4cyl / 22RE enging)

I have a 2004 Santa Fe with 39000 miles when can I aspect the driving or timing belt to go out

The timing belts must be replaced every 5 years or 50k miles, whatever comes first. The other belts whenever they give signs of slipping, no fixed date.

2000 626 2l tdi sedan limited edition belts

1. check they are not too tight. you should be able to push finger into longest free length of belt by about 1 cm.

2. check belt is not too loose as can overheat and break off.

3. check no grease or oil on belt pulleys. belt can slip and overheat and break

4. turn on engine when you install belt check to see that all pulleys attached to the belt turns. if one of the pulleys is seized and wont' turn properly, can overheat belt.

5. check pulley surface for cracks. must be smooth.

6. finally are your belts the correct width?
