SOURCE: configure router

You haven't specified the version no of the router. If you would turn the router upside down, you can see the model no and the version no right next to it. Although, the configuration of all the versions would be the same, you still need to make sure it has the latest firmware if its a older version. Here is what we need to do... 1. Connect the modem to the Internet port of the router 2. Connect the desktop to the port 4 of the router 3. With the router turned on, push the reset button on the router and hold it for 20-30 seconds. 4. Power Cycle: Unplug the power from the router and the modem. Wait 30 seconds and turn on the modem first. Wait 1-2 minutes till the ligts on the modem are steady. Turn on the router. 5. Wait till the lights on the router are all turned on (takes around 1 minute) 6. On the desktop, open your web browser 7. In the address bar, type 192.168.1.1 8. It must prompt you for a username and password 9. Skip the username and type the password - 'admin' 10. That must bring up the setup page of the router 11. There is tab on the top right corner - 'Status'. Click on that 12. In the status tab, you must see the internet ip address - 192.168.1.64, which is the ip address provided by the modem 13. Go back to the setup tab 14. In the setup tab, you would see the local ip address = 192.168.1.1 15. Change it to 192.168.2.1 16. Click on Save Settings (scroll down to the lower end of the screen to see this option) 17. Wait for 30 seconds and close the web browser 18. Power Cycle again (refer step 4) 19. Now internet must work on the desktop 20. By default, the network name (SSID) of the linksys router is - 'linksys' 21. You can go to the laptop(i assume it has windows xp), and try to connect to this network by - right click on the wireless icon in the system tray (on the right bottom corner of the screen) and click on 'view available wireless networks' 22. You must see 'linksys' as one of the available wireless networks 23. Try connecting to it and you laptop must work Those steps are generalised and you might get stuck in exceptional cases. If this does not work, please initiate a chat session with any of the experts, if this does not work, because this may require some advanced troubleshooting which would not be possible using those short messages. Good Luck

SOURCE: Laptops stopped connecting wireless

check if you’re computer is properly connected wirelessly to the Linksys router, you will need to perform six steps:

  1. Checking the IP Address of the PC
  2. Checking the Wireless Settings on a Linksys Router
  3. Disabling Computer's Firewall
  4. Disabling Proxy Settings
  5. Pinging the Router
  6. Pinging the Internet
Checking the IP Address of the PC
The IP address of the computer is another indication that the computer is properly connected to the router.

Checking the Wireless Settings on a Linksys Router
The router’s wireless settings should match the wireless settings of the wireless adapter in order for them to communicate.

Disabling Computer Firewall
Make sure that the computer firewall and any third party firewall installed in the computer is disabled. With a firewall enabled on your computer, you may get an invalid IP address. In such cases we have to disable any firewall installed on your PC.

Disabling Proxy Settings
If you have proxy settings, you need to disable these on your computer. If a computer is accompanied by a router, the gateway for the Internet connection, it no longer needs to get any proxy settings to gain access.

NOTE: If you are using Mac to disable the computer's proxy settings.

Pinging the Router
Ping test helps trace the communication between the computer and the router. The computer sends packets to the router and in return the router sends out replies to validate the connection.

Pinging the Internet
Ping test helps trace the communication between the computer, the router and the internet. To check the computer’s connection to the Internet you should get valid replies when you perform a ping test

How do I disable proxy settings on a Linksys router WRT54GSV7

There is a pinhole in the back of the router that lets you reset EVERYTHING. The router does not have proxy settings enabled by default. If you reset it, you have to change all the security settings and such back to what you had. Also you have to be connected to it with a hardware in order to change anything in the settings.

When I set the security setting to high on my Linksys Wireless G, none of my iphones or ipad will connect. I put in the password and it doesn't find the router. What am I doing wrong. If I have it...

Hmm. Make sure you're typing the right password; you might want to change it on the router, then try it on the Apple device? Did you set your router to a "closed network" setting, i.e. without the name of the network you can't connect at all? If not, maybe you have your router restricted so that only approved devices can connect. If none of these appear to be the cause of the problem, unplug the router, plug it back in, and reboot your Apple device. If that doesn't help, I would talk to linksys.

My linksys router will now allow my Ipad to connect. The ipad does connect to other routers execept mine

usually with the IPAD. You need to put the correct settings into the wireless connection settings.
You wll need your SSID (the name your router shows up as when you search for wireless connections)
Your security type ( WEP or WPA/WPA2)
your wifi password.
I have connected many IPADS, as long as you have the correct details it should work
Are you setting the correct security type?

Wireless Router suddenly stopped working.

Try resetting the Linksys back to the factory defaults and configure it again.
Power up the router and press the pinhole RESET button on the back of the router for 30 sec
Connect a LAN cable to the wireless router and open a browser and enter to router's configuration IP address and configure the wireless settings, remove the LAN cable when configuration is completed.
You need to configure then wireless card in the computer/laptop with the router's wireless settings.
