For that you need to check WAN settings and also make sure local ip settings gateway should be your router ip address. Make sure WAN settings are fine connect internet cable to WAN port of router. Then check. You can configure router with below method. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then configure wan settings and lan settings enable wireless if you want to use wifi Then save settings and restart router Then connect cable from internet service provider to WAN port of router and connect ethenet lan cable from computer to lan port of router. . SOURCE: hi, I have a universal

NETGEAR_EXT is the name or SSID of the extender. ie Netgear EXTender ;-]
What you need to do is first search for available wireless networks. It should show up there as NETGEAR_EXT if it is running and far enough away from your wifi.
Then open your web browser which should then open the connection wizard . If not you can try www.mywifiext.net. If you can't see it you may need to connect to it using a wire so you can set it up. sometimes if it is really messed up you may need to reset it to factory default.

SOURCE: I have a 2-wire 2701HG-B

Doesn't look like your router/modem supports WPS, here is the manual. http://www.2wire.com/pages/pdfs/2701HG_user_guide.pdf
I would check your Range extender model because some allow for a wired configuration
Here is a How To, to configure the extender via cable and utility http://support.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/41

SOURCE: How to connect the ASUS EA-N66R as a range extender.

SETTING A ROUTER AS A REPEATER 1. Connect your computer to the repeater router's RJ45 port with a LAN cable. 2. Open a browser, then enter the router's URL configuration's IP address, This is usually something similar to 192.168.0.1 3. Enter the configuration user name and password. The router will display the various router settings. 4. Go to the page that changes the IP address of the router. Changed the IP address so that it is not the same as the main router on the network, or any other network devices. If the main router on the network is set to 192.168.1.1 then the repeater router should use a higher number (ie. 10), such as 192.168.1.10 or higher, depending on how many devices are on your network. 5. Disable the repeater router's DHCP server. This setting should be on the same page as the IP address, (this may be different depending on the make of the router). When the main router is operating normally, this server assigns an IP address to every device that is connected to your network. Because this router is used as a repeater, the main router on your network will still issue the IP addresses. 6. Also turn off the DNS server, if it is activated. This function will be taken over by the main router. 7. Disable any firewall settings on the repeater router. This is usually in the "Security" section, depending on the make and model of your router. 8. Remove all in the "Port Forwarding" section. Some routers may refer to this as "Applications and Gaming," and it allows less-restricted access to the internet. 9. Set the operating mode switch to "Gateway" or "Switch" if applicable. Also, if the repeater router is a wireless router then disable the wireless access or set it to access point only. 10. Save the settings for each page, and reboot the router. When the router boots up, the changes will allow it to act as a simple repeater. 11. Now, place the repeater router in a new location and connect both routers with a Ethernet cable in each of the router's RJ45 LAN ports, and power it up both routers.

Have you first established the connection between the Router and the Extender?
If so, have you connected e.g. a laptop to the Extender?
So if your WLAN networks SSID is NETGEAR, the WLAN network of the Extender is NETGEAR_EXT and you have to connect the laptop to NETGEAR_EXT.
Then you have to open your favorit internet browser and have to type in www.mywifiext.net, which I guess is a buildin Setup-Assistant.If this doesn't work, make sure, your laptop is configured, to get an ip address automatically via DHCP.
