slide the hold button over til you see orange. Then hold the rec button and the menu button down at the same time. This will put the player into Recovery mode. Then plug the player into the cable that is attached to your PC. A16G file manger will come up. Click in the white area and create a folder called sansa.fmt Then double click the folder. Thene un=plug the sansa and it should say formatting. Once formatting is complete, you should then power the unit back on. This should re-set the unit and allow you to put all you songs etc. back on the unit and remove the corrupted data

You dragged & dropped files in recovery mode? Recovery mode is only for re-installing the firmware or formatting the device if it is unresponsive. If you are wanting to drag and drop files onto the device, the music needs to be put into the Music folder on the device. If you do not see the Music folder, you will need to enable hidden files and folders on your PC. Best of Luck. p.s. - you can add to this question this doesnt work.

My sansa e280 won't allow me to add music. What can i do?

I used the sync tool from Windows Media Player and added the songs i wanted directly to the music folder. I recommend configurating the sync to manual so that only songs that are selected can go into your device. Oh, yeah... i formated the device first. This is just one way i found to be effective; there are other solutions. Hope this helps.
