I think if I remember my daughters right the sleeve holds the hair on the roller, does it look like you could put the hair on the roller and then slide the sleeve over the roller and hair so it stays in your hair? just a thought. and if that is the case, I would take the sleeve off to heat and then when you put in hair the sleeve will not be to hot to handle while trying to put on the roller. hope it helps.

If there is a good (not 'fast food' type) auto parts store near you, go there and ask the counterman for his or her recommendation for cleaning those surfaces.
