First, are you still under warranty? If so you want to contact Toshiba.

You can get the replacement drive (Toshiba) for about $39 + shipping from newegg.com (They have other Toshiba models also). This drive should be available at other sites also.

This is just an example. I am assuming this is the drive model yours shipped with from looking at few sites, I cannot obviously be 100% sure without having looked at it:

As for the OS, Hopefully you have some recovery disks that shipped with the Unit or that you made. If not, you can contact Toshiba support.

Looks like a set are $30 bucks. These DO NOT include a OS license, these are just the disks. You should already have the license.

You need to boot up from the OS installation disk and follow the instructions onscreen.

Upon startup the laptop will ask you te press a certain key for booting from cd. If not, you'll have to select your cd/dvd drive as primary boot device via the bios settings.

After all the copying has completed, remove the CD and let the computer reboot from the "new" files on the 'C:' disk-drive.

If you are mentioning about 'formating' your laptop, then you can do it with either a bootable OS disk or the recovery CD that comes with your laptop.
NB: Formating the disk will lose all the data in the drive. So take necessary backup before you proceed.
Boot your laptop with the CD inserted. Make sure CD ROM is listed first in the boot option menu in BIOS. Boot from the CD and format and start installing the OS again.

Remove the disk-drive from the laptop, and connect it to another computer.
Copy all the files from the recovery-media onto the disk-drive.
Reinstall the disk-drive into your laptop.
Run the recovery software from where you copied the files onto the disk-drive.

Toshiba laptops come with recovery disks utility built in. you can ether do it by accessing toshiba recovery disk creator. if you do not have access to your os then you have to contact toshiba support or find some one with same laptop and ask them to create recovery for you.

??? I am not sure exactly what you are referring to, but if you mean that you need to "reload" your toshiba laptop and do not have the system disk, then you can try and see if the laptop has a factory image on a separate partition on the hard drive. In most cases this can be found by tapping F12 while the laptop is booting up. If available this should bring you to a menu where you can choose to boot from optional devices, one being the recovery partition. BE CAREFUL here.. if you choose that option, you will loose ALL DATA. If that recovery partition is not available on that model then you can contact Toshiba and for a small fee they will usually send you recovery disk for that machine. I would recoment visiting their website and have a look a the owners manual for that model and follow the instructions there.

First, try windows diagnostic. Depress F8 button before the pc boots to windows and select Restore to best known...If nothing happens, try booting to Safe Mode. If it works ok in that mode then you need to reformat your drive. Make sure you use the Restore cd otherwise some or all the features like sound, VGA, etc will not work. When the Restore disk is through, it will prompt for the OS. Simply insert it into the drive's tray and follow the instruction on the screen. Good luck

in case you can get a non boot disk , u can install it by using a start up floppy disk for win9x
