The water that comes out of my refrigerator tastes musty.

I have cleaned the inside of my refrigerator & freezer with water & baking soda. I threw all old food out of the freezer & refrigerator. I dumped out the ice bin twice & ran several gallons of water out of the water dispenser in the door & discarded it. Anything that would come out, I washed it. When I pulled out the bottom drawer in the refrigerator, I noticed some plastic curly tubing attached to the wall. It was clear except for black on the inside bottom of it. Is this a water reservoir & is that charcoal in the bottom of the tubing? If not charcoal is this mold that is growing & how do I clean it? My refrigerator has not been smelling. I've just had this musty taste to the water. Our water that we get out of our faucet doesn't musty. Can you please help me? I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM i changed the filter but did not help then i looked at my water suppy line and found mold in side the line so i replaced the line it help a little but now i think it's in the line on the frige and holding tank . hope some one can help there must be something that can be flushed threw the fridge.

Why does the water taste funny after two . Months use

Usually taste change is created by a build-up of something inside the kettle or pot. Try the Baking Soda cleaning method:

  • Pour one cup of baking soda into the kettle.
  • Add water to fill
  • Heat the water and baking soda to boiling
  • Unplug the kettle and allow it to set for at least 10 minutes.
  • With a scrub brush or other scrubber, gently scrub the inside of the kettlepot. Be careful not to burn yourself.
  • Once it's all clean, wash with soap and water normally and rinse really well
That will usually get out any old residue that's affecting the taste

Water has an oily smell and taste

You can eliminate the bad odor of your refrigerator by putting a small charcoal inside. But before putting that you need to clean the inside of your refrigerator. Clean it with baking soda soak to water.
Then when the ref is clean, out a small amount of charcoal inside and those oily smell and taste will gone.
Good luck.

Kenmore elite ice and freezer smell. Ice tastes disgusting. we have a whole house water filter so the problem is not the water. any thing put in the freezer will end up smelling like the bad ice and the...

Keeping baking soda in the freezer has little chance of actually absorbing any odor causing air because the air is too dense. Two solutions I can recommend is to either turn the freezer to its HIGHEST setting so it doesn't freeze anything and try the baking soda again, or the second is very inconvenient, but I've seen it work, is to unplug the unit and place a container of Damp Rid in it for a couple of days.

Check the inside of the freezer and ensure there are no cracks in the lining as moisture can get in there and cause horrible smells, especially if you have ever put meat (especially poultry) and the package leaked before freezing.

The water that comes out of my refrigerator tastes musty.

If you have a water dispencer on the door of the fridge, and it taste funny, it has nothing with the inside
of the fridge. You could have a dead body in it and it would not do anything to the drinking water.

There should be a filter for the water, you need to look at the manual and see where the filter is
so it can be replaced. If the unit does not have one I would put one in just before the water line
enters the unit. If the line comes up from basement, then the best place is in basement just below
unit where it goes up through floor, this way a good unit with replaceable cartridge can be used.
The larger the unit usually means more time before replacement, volume of water run through it.

If there is mold growing on the plastic water line that runs through the fridge, I would believe that after
very long periods of time that it could leach through the line. 50/50/10 Bleach and water and 10%
dish detergent. If you can clean as much of the line that you can get to with this, then it should stop this.

Does this have any kind of a drain in the bottom of this unit, let the solution of this cleaner go down
and if this flows into a tray, clean tray. You can also cover the drain, fill the area with enough of just a 50/50 water/bleach mix so that it goes over the seams at the bottom, this way say something leaked out of this area there is a chance that the mix will stop this from smelling. This would be
in the last ditch effort, because it is not recommend. You should leave a box of baking soda in each compartment fridge/freez.

Any questions please post back.

I have a bad smell and taste in water and ice from fridge/freezer

Take out all shelves and accessories that can be removed. Wash these thoroughly with a mild detergent (dish washing liquid and warm water) and rinse thoroughly. Allow them to air dry completely.
* Wipe the inside walls of the refrigerator and freezer down completely with a solution of 1 quart warm water and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Wipe the walls completely dry.
* Leave the doors standing wide open. Use a fan to circulate air through the cabinets for several hours to completely dry the inside walls. After several hours, turn the fan off.
* Replace the shelves in the refrigerator. Place shallow trays of one of the following deodorizers on the shelves of the refrigerator and freezer:
o Baking soda
o Activated carbon (used in aquarium filters, can be obtained at a pet store)
o Cat litter
o Fresh and unused coffee grounds (this may leave a coffee smell that would dissipate after several days)
* After 24 hours, plug in the refrigerator and allow it to cool for several hours with the deodorizer still in place. Once cooled to normal operating temperature, remove the trays of deodorizer and put your food back into the refrigerator and freezer.
* Keep some cereal size bowls of a deodorizer in the freezer and refrigerator cabinets for several days

Ice from ice maker does not taste right

Hi

Ice storage bin needs to be emptied and washed. Unsealed packages in the refrigerator and/or freezer compartments may be transmitting odors/tastes to the ice cubes.
Interior of the refrigerator may need cleaning.
Water chemicals. Installing an in-line filter can help with many odor/taste complaints.
An open box of baking soda in the refrigerator section can help with preventing the transmitting of food odors.
This is a common in-line water filter, they are fairly easy to install and usually come with instructions.

Even when your well or municipal water supply provides healthy, potable water to your ice maker, some impurities may remain. These can affect the smell or taste of the ice cubes, and therefore the beverages in which you serve them. A taste and odor water filter on the incoming water-supply line--such as our charcoal "Universal Replacement Water Filter"--can help a lot.

Also, over time, the ice cube bin can absorb difficult-to-remove odors from the freezer. Some manufactures recommend that you replace the bin every 2 to 3 years, whenever it seems to be retaining objectionable odors and transferring them to the ice cubes.

A Fixya Rating would be appreciated.
