Possibly this could be a lid switch issue, check you lid switch settings in power manager.

Can I run my 1275 w/o the battery and use just a/c power

Hello, the short answer is YES you can. I am not sure why are you trying to do this but just remember while running laptop just AC power your are running the rick where if you accidently move the laptop and power connector coming lose from laptop will cause instant power off. This can cause you lose data you might be working on. This can also cause OS corupption.
So my recommendation is to do this if absolutely nessasary and be sure thatpower cable doesn't get pulled or moved.

I hope this helps,

Kind regards,

I am unable to unhibernate

Power down the computer and power back up. Lets just shut hibernation off...you can always just have the computer sleep...it is much better on the system anyway.

Shutting Down Hibernation

Go to the control panel > Power Options > Hibernation tab > uncheck hibernate…this way you save a lot of disc space and don’t have to go through all the intermittent hibernation problems that occur. After you uncheck hibernation, you can go to the other power options and change how the computer reacts to the lid being closed, when it sleeps and for how long before sleep kicks in. Make sure to change the setting for what happens when lid closes to “do nothing” this will keep the laptop alive even though you close the lid to move it, etc.

Turning off computer

I have a Compaq 1275 with the same problem. You can actually turn it off without removing the battery by holding the on/off button for more than 4 seconds. This actually works for any computers (it is like a reset button). Hope it helps.
