When drum turns around it makes a noise as metal on metal, however this only happens with the drum in one particular position. I hear the noise when machine is empty and I turn the drum around by hand. I already removed a thin pice of metal from the pump compartment, so I wonder if there may be more metal strips in the machine, but I do not know how to get in the machine between the drum and the cover around the drum.

more likely there is a bra wire caught between the inner drum and outer tub, possibly wrapping itself around the element in the bottom.

leaks could be from anywhere. remove the top and back cover, put on a cycle and try to trace where leak is. sorry if this is not very helpful. water in filter should not smell. this may be due to using liquid detergent which causes a smell like drains if used over a period. put on a boil wash and revert to using powder

If the obstruction is between the drum inner and outer then you may have to remove the rubber door seal to gain access. ISOLATE THE POWER FIRST. The problem with disturbing seals is that they may no longer seal when replaced! - Particularly if the machine is a few years old.
Probably best to leave it to a guy with a van full of spares.

Before removing the filter have you drained the excess water with the drain hose to the left of the filter? The filter cap should turn around 1/4 to 1/2 turn so the best option is to close it again and then repeatedly try opening it with a little more force each time. The black plastic cage could affect the removal of the filter and once removed if it is damaged you may need to replace it. These are available via most domestic appliance spares stores or directly from Bosch. Once removed check for any black plastic debris in the filter housing and chamber.
