On mine there is a bolt that you loosen and move a slide up or down. It is located at the end closest to the engine of the forward/nuetral/reverse lever. Sliding mine downward tightens my belts. Hope this helps.

I am currently looking at buying a troybilt horse with serial # 340455. Can someone let me know what year this is?

That tiller was made sometime between 7/1/78 and 1/1/79. This is the Horse II model and is a four speed one belt tiller. The Horse I was a two speed two belt tiller. These are very good tillers if they have been reasonably taken care of.

When the clutch is disengaged the tines still turn.

If you email me at [email protected] I have a couple of Econo-Horse manuals that I downloaded that I can email to you. They don't really have a clutch just belts and pulleys so its probably just needing a new belt or a belt tension adjustment. I have a Econo-Horse tiller and it is a nice machine I think mine is about the same age as yours.

Good Luck,

Go to this website and type in Horse for your model number.Just put thenumber 1 in for your serial number and it will bring up several horse tiller manuals. If yours is a 1976 then it should be
a Horse I model. This should be a two speed tiller and have two drive belts.

Drive belt slipping, how to adjust

Where the lever mechanism for forward and reverse works down close to the engine mine has a bolt that you loosen and adjust the slide up and down to allow for more movement of the housing.

That's the engine number. It's a 6Hp Tecumseh. Go on ebay and buy the Troy Bilt parts manuals on CD for Horse Roto Tillers (if that's what it's on). I paid $8. Definitely worth it.

I have a Troy-bilt tiller horse with no serial #.

Bring the old belt to the parts store and they will be able to measure it and get you the belt by size.
