It happened to me today and it passed after a while when i was arriving home. Try to reset it by taking the power source off for a couple of minutes then try again.
Don't forget about your system definitions, it will be restored to default.
I have had the same problem, since there is no "mute" button on the receiver panel. My power cord on the receiver was plugged into my cable box and I was told this is not correct. I unplugged the receiver from the cable box and plugged it into my power surge protector and no more "mute"!!! Hope this helps.
My Pioneer Super Tuner 3 D was working just fine. The face plate was removed by accident while it was operating. Once it was reinstalled the displays all still work but there is no audio any longer.
