Have you checked to ensure the WiFi switch is turned on? The computer with the red X is typically to let you know that connection is off (or in the case of the port that there is no hardline). Basically the 2 computer are one hardline, one wifi. Make sure the WiFi switch is on. It is usually a physical switch on the front for Sony laptops.

SOURCE: Vaio wireless lan switch repeatedly restarts windows

Thats sounds like the wrong drivers for the network card. Some models can have different models or brands of cards so you can get the wrong one in there. You should be able to boot up in safe mode (F8) and then go under control panel - system- hardware manager-network adapters. Find the card that is causing the problems highlight and delete it. Then reboot. This takes the card out of the system and it will be detected as a new hardware next startup. Then try another driver.

You might want to go to the Sony website and check under support to see what other drivers you can get to try for your model. There might be 2-3 to try. Usually the oem disks are right but the replacements don't always get things right.

If this were hardware you shouldn't get the bluescreen of death (BSOD). That usually means software or drivers.

link above for manual find exact model 7 number & download, read up.
You hook up with an Ethernet cable, you type in the "Address" of the router, in manual, login, using default name and password, in manual, once logged in toy can then run the "Wizard" this will help you connect. You need to know your Internet Account login and password. Once all setup you save and now you can use it. it is all explained in the manual. It is a few pages so it was not possible to post here.

Some files have gone missing or corrupted. Could be Windows files or driver files. You can't replace the device as it's built-in on the motherboard. What you can try is to remove the driver, restart the PC, and reinstall. If that doesn't work, boot with the Windows installation CD and choose to repair Windows. Try updating the driver too.

You can also try setting the IP to be static in your notebook instead of letting the router set it through DHCP.

I've had a problem like this before but it's not even the wifi's fault. Try disabling one by one your startup programs. It happened to me that a program tries to connect to the network on startup but since wifi takes longer to connect than ethernet, it crashes and brings down Windows with it.

If it's still not working, I suggest disabling it and just get yourself a USB Wifi dongle...

Router not recognizing internet connection from cable modem.

No, you do not need a Hub. You also should not need to add the mac address. On the router, you need to enable DHCP so that your PC can get its IP address from your router. Then try your reboot again. Modem------------->Router----------------->PC. Wait about 1 minute between each device for them to sync up. Make sure that your PC IP settings are set on obtain IP address automatically under Control Panel----->Network Settings
