If you have access to the lens clean with a tissue or micro fibre cloth In circular motions gentle 10-12 swirls and then try the drive if problem persists then your drive lens have got weak need to replace drive. You have to remove the top cover of drive with 6-8 small screws. It first stops cd reading and then DVD , it's normal failure behaviour. Pls rate my solution if I helped.

Computor wont recognize dvd player

You might need to have a computer administrator account to perform some tasks.
Most new devices your computer will recognise automatically. When your comp is running, plug in your new dvd player. Does it beep and say 'New Hardware added? If not then use
The Add Hardware Wizard which enables you to add new hardware or troubleshoot any hardware-related problems.
Open the Add Hardware Wizard

  • To open the Add Hardware Wizard, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Printers and Other Hardware. Under See Also, click Add Hardware.
  • If it can't recognise the player, it gives you the option to select the correct make and model. Is yours on the list? If not, you may need to go to the Microsoft site and update the list of players.
  • Do come back here if you need further help.

DVD wont recognise disc

If your DVD drive don't show up in device manager and if there's no yellow exclamation mark in device manager, try to check IDE or SATA cable connection from your DVD drive to the motherboard. Also check the cable itself (are the wires inside broken?)

I put this system in my truck and the dvd player wont work on it

Please try to download the codecs and also try with the un-installing the DVD drive from the device manager.

Codecs weblink : http://www.free-codecs.com/K_lite_codec_pack_download.htm

Copy and paste this web link in the address bar.

Locate " Download [ K-Lite Codec Pack 5.6.1 FULL ] " from the list and click on it to start downloading the codecs. Once the download is complete, please double click on the downloaded file to install.

To uninstall and re-install the CD/DVD drive, please follow the below steps :

For Windows XP :

Click start >> Run >> type devmgmt.msc in the text field and click OK.

This will open the device manager window.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7 :

Click Start >> type devmgmt.msc in the start search field and hit enter key on the keyboard.

This will open the device manager window.

You will see a list of devices in the device manager window.

Click on + sign beside the CD/DVD ROM listed there. This will open the name of the device listed there. Right click on the device name listed there and click uninstall from the dropdown list.

This will disappear the device name from there.

To re-install the CD/DVD ROM drive :

Click on Action tab from the top of device manager window. Click Scsn for hardware changes from there.

This will re-install the CD/DVD drive in the device manager.

Try playing DVD's and check for the issue.....

DVP-NS30 shows "CANNOT PLAY" message when DVD inserted

Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
  1. Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
  2. Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
  3. Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
  4. Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
    • If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
    • Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.

  5. Remove the disc from the DVD player.
  6. Turn off the DVD player.
  7. Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
  8. Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
  9. Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
  10. Turn on the DVD player.
  11. Insert the disc into the DVD player.
  12. Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.
