I Turn On My receiver, And it Clicks and Then Shuts back down.
My rx-v2400 also shuts off soon after turning it on. Problem started 3 months ago. I've checked speaker connections, sent the unit to be repaired (3x), tried to get help from Yamaha. Bottom line...after $350 in repairs and endless frustrations, I've decided to buy a new receiver (not Yamaha).

I have the same problem that just appeared recently. I moved my system down to my basement where it is much cooler when the heat is off. Same thing - I turn it on then it turns itself off.
However, when I turn on the heat and let the room temperature come up to about 65 degrees, the unit will turn on and will stay on.
I checked the manual for operating temperatures but did not find any reference to this.
Any suggestions?

Hi Seems like you have a shorted output channel, remove all your speaker connections and try again, if the problem persist, good chances are that you need to replace a couple of power transistors, let me know if you need more help, I've fixed some Yamaha amplifiers with this problem Good Luck Miguel

Replacing the power transistors requires some skills so you don´t damaged the PCB, I suggest touse a desolder wick and small suction pump.
To detect which transistor are damaged you can use your meter, set it to ohms and connect the black lead to ground and the red to the leads of the transistors, power transistors are kind of big and are fastened to the heat sink, if you find one transistor shorted, usually the next one that belongs to the same channel is shorted too, and you must check for other transistors shorted and some resistors burned, there is also a zener (5.1v)diode that can be shorted. and other component that for sure you must replace is the 0.22 ohm 5W resistor it tend to open.
By experience I check all the transistors specially the small one that is located between the two big ones and replace this one with SAME number, otherwise your receiver won´t works.

For the temperature problem you can check the resistors located near to the speaker post PCB, you will find some ceramic capacitors too, check them. I have found some of this components with a low impedance, that causes a draw of current from the power transistor just like if you were playing music at very high volume,

My receiver exhibits the same problem - I turn it on, then it clicks, and turns off. Currently, there is nothing attached to the unit and it's still keeps turning itself off. Is this something that I dare try to repair myself?
