Precor M9.35 error 22

We had to take the treadmill apart to move it down stairs, moved it to the new house, put it back together, and started it up. It started, but then sent an error code 22. What could the problem be?

Precor Error Code 22 Error Code: 22 Manufacturer: Precor
Model: All Models
Error Description: Error 22, No Motor Pulses at Start Up - Error indicates that the display has sent a command for the drive motor to start, however, the speed sensor has not returned the signal acknowledging that the drive motor has started. Possible Reason:

  1. The line of sight between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target is obstructed.
  2. Badly worn drive motor brushes.
  3. Incorrect gap between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target.
  4. Incorrect adjustment of the speed sensor potentiometer (when equipped).
  5. Inoperative speed sensor.
  6. Faulty lower PCA.
  7. Faulty interconnect cable between upper and lower PCA.
  8. Faulty upper PCA.
Recommended Action:
  1. Using a static safe vacuum cleaner, carefully vacuum out the drive motor compartment. Be sure to thoroughly clean the area between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target.
  2. Bady worn drive motor brushes cannot make proper contact with the motor commutator, therefore the drive motor will not start when voltage is applied. Inspect and replace drive motor brushes if necessary.
  3. Inspect the gap of the speed sensor to the speed sensor target. Proper gap is 3/16" and the speed sensor photo eye should be aimed at the larger portion of the targets wedge shaped section. If unit has a magnetic speed sensor, the gap between the end of the sensor and the flywheel tooth needs to be 3/16".
  4. Locate the speed sensor potentiometer (when equipped) on the lower PCA. Set the speed sensor potentiometer to mid-range. Start the treadmill and increase speed to 6 mph. Carefully adjust the speed sensor potentiometer until the treadmill is operating the smoothest. Increase the speed to full speed and again adjust the speed sensor potentiometer until the treadmill is operating the smoothest. These two adjustments are typically small and are generally only a matter of fine tuning.
  5. An inoperative speed sensor will allow the drive motor to start and run briefly before the error appears. If able to access the speed sensor wiring, measure the DC voltage between the speed sensor leads. Two of the leads will always read about 5 VDC. Two will toggle between 0 and 5 VDC as you slowly turn the speed sensor target. If both measurements are not seen, the speed sensor needs replaced. Some units have the speed sensor mounted on the lower PCA and the lower PCA needs replaced.
  6. Determine if the lower PCA is bad by swapping with a known good lower PCA.
  7. Determine if the interconnect cable is bad by swapping with a know good cable.
  8. Determine if the upper PCA is bad by swapping with a know good upper PCA.

it should be a cable that looks like an oversized telephone cable. I can't really tell by the description of the problem if you just can't remember where it plugs into or if you've lost it altogether. There will be a circuit board in the base of the treadmill that will have something that looks like a phone jack port on it. That's where it will plug into. There should only be one port on the lower board that will accept that style of plug.

Testimonial: "This is the exact answer to the problem--after much searching around, I finally found the little box it fit into. the treadmill is up and running. Thanks for your input."

SOURCE: SPEED ERROR ON PRECOR 927 TREADMILL

I had the speed error on my precor 9.23. When I opened it up I found that there are two little round magnets on the belt pulley with a sensor mounted nearby. This must be how the computer know the speed of the treadmill. I noticed that there were several little metal shavings stuck to the magnets. Not sure where they came from, hopefully not another problem. However, I removed the metal shavings from the magnets and everything worked fine again. If anyone else has the speed error it might be worth a look to see if its the same problem.

SOURCE: precor 927 stuck in incline position

How long have you let it run for after turning it back on ? Some treadmills have a re calibration test built in and will incline to the max and work its way down. During this time you should simply walk away and not touch anything as it trys to calibrate its self. If not i will need more information on it

How do I move a trotter CXL Plus out of the house?

It does take a lot to take it apart.
I suggest you fold it up and get a fridge cart or something with wheels on it and take it that way. Ours has wheels on one end of it and to get it down some stairs we get three or four strong men to help.
I know they are heavy.

How to put together?

Look under Precor Ellipticals. Using your model and serial number, narrow it down. This will allow you to see an owners manual, service manual, as well as a diagram of your machine.

How do I move my Proform Treadmill to another room without taking it apart completely. It will not fit thru the doorway and too heavy to lift alone.

I have moved this treadmill several times since we bough it. Up and down stairs and from one room to another. I also used to be a mover so I hope this helps. I am not sure what model you have but i have the 525x. To move it I make sure the incline is set to zero, list the track/running section and lock it into place with the locking pin located on one of the handles. The Proform i have has attached wheels so i lean it back and get it close to the door standing straight up. Once there I turn the treadmill slightly and get one side through the doorway then I pull it halfway through the doorway. If its a tile, wood or linoleum floor make sure to put a rug under the treadmill to protect the floor. It will also helo it slide through the doorway easier. Then tuun the treadmill slightly the other way and get the other half through the door. Once there i tilt it back on its wheels and move it where i want it.

Err 22 keeps displaying on control panel on one treadmill and on another err45 ..... Any answers? Plus some treadmills same to just trip, have to keep switch them back on!

Error 22 indicates that the drive motor (running belt) has been instructed to start, by either manual or program control, and the monitoring system has not received any response from the speed sensing system indicating that the drive motor has started
Possible Causes 1. The treadmill utilizes an optical (infrared) speed sensor and the line of sight between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target is obstructed. 2. Drive motor brushes are bad. 3. The speed sensor position relative to the speed sensor target is incorrect. 4. The speed sensor potentiometer adjustment is incorrect (when equipped). 5. The speed sensor is inoperative. 6. The lower PCA is bad. 7. The lower PCA to upper PCA interconnect cable is bad. 8. The upper PCA is bad
Error 45 :The lift control system has detected that the lift is moving in the opposite direction of the issued
Possible Causes 1. Lift Motor hysteresis. 2. Bad lower PCA
Possible Remedies 1. This error would typically happen when the lift was already in motion (typically downward) when a lift command in the opposite direction (lift up) was issued. Some motors exhibited a very long turn around time and the lift motor would still be moving in the original direction (downward) while the control system was attempting to move the lift in the opposite direction. If the error 45 condition is persistent, replace the lift motor. 2. This is a very rare condition, if the lift moves in the opposite direction of the issued lift command, replace the lower PCA lift command.
