Drum in kenmore top loaded washer is moving freely, loud in spin

The drum seems to be moving freely side to side, and is hitting the sides of the washer even with a small load. Are there shocks that can go bad in a washer?

I have a Kenmore washing machine model # 11020854990 which recently had a loud banging and knocking sounds during the final spin cycle. Now I notice the drum seems to have dropped down about an inch plus...

Could be a loose basket nut, or on the bottom tub support there are a few springs that help locate the tub. One of the springs could have come off or broke.

Washer is making a loud knocking noise and the drum may be moving forward toward the door and/or hitting the side of the washer. It's worst while on washing cycle - improves with spin especially as speed...

Your drum is out of line and to check is to remove your rubber front gasket and see whether the drum have more space and any of it's sides. It should be evenly spaced out. Good Luck

During the spin cycle the washing machine becomes VERY noisy, sounds like its off-balance, but happens EVERY time, even with very small loads. The whole unit doesn't move when it happens, just extremely...

During the spin cycle the drum moves at a higher RPM and so the counter weight of the clothes within can make the drum rotate eccentric or out of sync.
So check if the belt is loose on the motor, checck if the spindle is tight with friction or the drum assembly suspension is out of alignment.
You must check the reason with the following points to confirm the drum spinning making noise. check point of noise , is this on hitting the sides , or from the motor, any foreign objects or the drum spindle. But you are the judge with a first view. Use good lighting to look out and confirm the fault.

Drum off balance

It's either a bad suspension spring or you have a crack in the tub support.

Kenmore spin cycle thumping noises

I just went through the same issue with my Kenmore front loading washing machine. I assumed (and a Sears repairman also told me) that it is the bearings. After I took the drum assembly out, I saw the rear drum broken and the inner tub hitting the outer tub. I ordered the outer drum assembly and only when I took the inner drum assembly out I realized the the "Spider" attached to the inner drum (and spindle) was broken. Entire drum assembly cost $417 + shipping and it may be cheaper in the long run to buy a new washer. I like the front loaders because they save water and good for the environment, but the US manufacturers have not yet perfected the technology like European manufacturers (or they don't want the machines to last too long just like cars). Anyway, I am looking into welding the spider tomorrow. If not will return the outer tub assembly and buy a top loading washer for $300!
