Musty smell/taste from water dispenser in refridgerator

Our Kitchenaid Superba Side by Side had a problem with the ice maker for about 6 months (so it & the water dispenser were not being used). After being repaired the water being dispensed by the in-door water dispenser tastes & smells a little musty. The repairman said it would go away with lots of use but it hasn't improved. What can I do? Peggy

Water and Ice have tasted like **** since we got the refrigerator (about 1 year ago) I believe the soultion is bypass the storage tank, but I can't find it..

When the Ice Smells
1. Replace water filters every 6 months to avoid musty odors from getting into your ice. If you don't replace the filters, they become clogged with the chemicals they have been removing from the water. In addition to smelly ice, you may see a drop in water pressure if you have a water dispenser, and possibly a decrease in ice cube size.
2. Remove the cap from the new filter.
3. Place the cartridge inside the holder, and twist to the right.

When the ice smells...water & ice have tasted like ***** also.

Good day : )

Smelly refridgerator/freezer

I refrigerator does not produce a smell. The smell is usually from what goes into it. Take some charcoal (not the kind with starter in it),put 5 to 10 in a bowl and place into the freezer area and ball up some newspaper and place it on top of the charcoal. Use one of the lower shelves to place this on. You may want to take this time and remove any items that are not sealed good. Leave this in the freezer for 3 days, replace the paper with new balls of paper. In a week take it all out, this may help.
You can always leave charcoal in the frig, in a small bowl.
About the ice and water, this should be the taste of the waterline, plastic or nylon type hose on the back. Replace this with a good quality waterline and filter from a hardware or home store.
Hope this helps.

Ice maker water taste like chlorine but tap tastes fine

Put a in-line water filter on the water line if you want. The taste is from the food and items you have in the refrigerator. Clean it out and keep your items in proper storage. Ice collects the smells in the line and the fridge. Change your ice that is sitting in the bin, wask out the bin with water and baking soda. Hope this helps.

Ice tastes bad from ice maker

Sometimes filters have issues like this even being new , it is located at the bottom kickplate [round] , pick up a new filter -part number 4396841 - install the filter , dump remaining ice in bin out , purge the water through the new filter through water in door for a few minutes and you should be good.

Very bad tasting/smelling water and ice cubes - Superba KSRS27QAAL05

Since I found that the water itself being fed to the trays and being dispensed was bad. I replace the nylon, reinforced plastice icemaker hose with 1/4" copper supply line. That, along with purging the hopper (getting rid of) any old ice as well as washing the hopper out real good and giving the freezer a general cleaning - seemed to do the trick. No repugnant odor or taste. (I didn't even replace the filter- the cycle is every 6 mos.)

Hope this helps others who may be experiencing this same prob with this type of side by side appliance.

Good luck!
Lou
