I did a factory reset of the Panasonic DMR EZ48V combo VHS-DVD recorder to try and get rid of wavy lines when playing DVDs. Now it will not go into Functions on the remote so I can do a setup. It says Hello, then Off, then it shuts down. I did OK - 2, and the unit says RC1. But still does not work. I did the factory reset by pressing up and down simultaneously on the unit. The remote can power the unit on and off though.

See if you can access the factory reset on the VCR, that should send everything back to normal.

Is this when recording from VHS to DVD? Have you cleaned the VHS tape heads recently? You can get cleaning tapes for this purpose.

Insert a lens cleaning disc into it and let it play. If this do not help you, the optical pickup unit to your playder is faulty, and should be replaced.

Try setting the clock on the remote press [FUNCTIONS] go to SETUP menu - locate the CLOCK option (it should be under 'OTHERS' in the setup) and set the current time, press [ENTER/OK] to store if necessary, then press [RETURN] to exit the setup. Once clock is set correctly, future DVD thumbnails will show the actual date/time of recording in this (and similar) model combo units. If auto clock setting is not possible, set it manually as above.

I assume in spite of the wrong date/time, your DVD recordings have been successful. Incorrect clock and date setting usually only affects timer recording for VHS.

The U99 error is a "general communications problem". Were you trying to switch sources when you were recording? You shouldn't to avoid this error. That's what we did with my Uncles unit.

This is happening because your DVD is NOT all region, you need to change the Code.

If you combo get activated the progresive scan function you never see the videio only sound you need to deactivate
