If it is just a writer then no but I have never heard of just a writer and mostly they are designated a reader/writer when they should be able to read whatever they are capable of writing - if the computer has the right software installed that is.

Do you mean "how to burn files from a portable device to the mac" instead? You will need burning software like Nero or other software that is compatible with your mac. The process includes copying the files from the portable device to your mac hard drive then use burning software to burn the files to a dvd or cd disk. I don't know about mac but with a pc, you simple drag and drop the files from the portable device to your hard drive using Windows Explorer.

did you remove all of the original software as this can cause a software problem. you will need to remove the new software and the old software.then shut down the computer then. let it start up. turn back off again install the dvd writer then turn back on now should load the proper driver for the dvd rom. then install the software.
