Leviton Single Pole Switch with Pilot Light Model 277W Box

Hi! I'm trying to have a switched duplex outlet with the Leviton Switch/ Pilot light at end. I'm using 2 wire cable. Do I need 3 wire cable for this? I feel the directions were lacking. Thanks-  Steve from Tennessee

Depends on whether you want the pilot to glow when the circuit is live (the main light is on) or to glow when the circuit is off. (The switch can be used either way, and I have used this switch in both configurations at different places.)

The wiring diagram is on the inside of the box.

In indicates that if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is off, then you only need two wires (the live and the return, usually colored black and white, respectively). However, you also need a ground. The instructions say that you need the ground for safety (and probably legal code) reasons, but I suspect that, without the ground, the pilot light won't work in this configuration.

However, if you want the pilot light to glow when the circuit is on, you probably need a three wire configuration (plus the ground).

Hope this helps.

How do I wire double elrctrical switches?

i assume both switches are single pole? How to wire depends on what wires you have in the box (i.e. the circuit they are in).

I have a cooper comb devces how do i wire i want switch to control the plug

The Cooper combo device requires neutral wire to energize the outlet.
To control outlet with switch, the Hot side of device must have break-away fin.
Remove break-away fin.
Connect jumper wire from switch load side to outlet Hot side.

I am trying to wire a cooper 277 swich to control an outlet. I am having a hard time getting it to work. I have followed the wiring diagram with no luck. I would like the Pilot to be on when the switch is...

Open following link for cooper 277 wiring illustration:

Wired as shown in illustration, the pilot light and the Load will come on each time switch is turned on.
The illustration show Load is light bulb.
In your case, the Load will be an outlet instead of light bulb.
So the Load will have 2 wires. The black wire from switch connects to brass screw on outlet. The neutral connects to silver screw.
Bare ground wires connect to green screws.

Need a diagram for cooper #277w

I made following diagram based on Cooper pilot light instruction sheet:
Neutral wires are usually the white wires that are twisted together in back of box and covered with wire nut.
If your box does not have neutrals, you can also connect bare ground wire to silver screw until you have time to run neutral wire to box >> ground to anything but ground screw is not code and not recommended.

I have a single pole switch with single receptacle. It is in a double box, I want to change this to a single pole switch with a double receptacle beside it. How?

Unless I misunderstand you, you just need to get a single switch, and a duplex outlet with a matching plate. Your hardest part will be to decide the color of the devices and plate (rectangular, double-D holes, etc. I'd suggest, that for "preserving domestic tranquility" you hire you mate (if any) as consultant on these matters.
(Wire it as it is now; that is if the switch controls the outlet the wiring should still be easy to follow.
DO turn off the power first!)

I need the wiring diagram for a Cooper 277W single pole switch with pilot light. The light is to be on when the switch is on. Thanks!

I have 120Volt cooper 277 pilot light switch here in my office.
Dang instruction sheet shows wiring for all kinds of cooper devices.
EXCEPT pilot light switch.

So I tested with multimeter and came up with following:
Key to any wiring device is color of screws.
Hot from breaker box always goes to dark-colored screws.
Neutral always goes to silver-colored screws.
Brass screws are for Hot wires from breaker or Hot going to Load
Green screw - ground

I have just installed 2 Leviton decora switch with pilot light Leviton 5637-i. The pilot light on both switches are not lighting, the switches operate the light and fan fine. It is wired as shown in the...

This is a single pole light switch and should be wired as any other SP switch. The only difference is that is has a pilot light. All the white neutral wires are tied together and then pushed back in the box with none connected to the switch. The grounds are tied together with a jumper wire connected to the green screw on the switch. That will leave you with 2 or more black wires. If you have just two normally you can connect them to the two screws on the switch and it does not matter which screws. However it may be that with the pilot light you need to connect the wire going to the light to the top screw and the power wire to the bottom or vice versa. Try both ways. If you have more than 2 black wires you need to connect the incoming power black wire and outgoing power black wires together and then jump to one of the screws on the switch. The black wire left over is the black wire going to the light itself. If none of this works then it is obvious the pilot light in the switch is burnt out.
