Hi, As you are syaing there is green light in on the power button on the tower. The problem could be caused with any on the internal components inside the computer. Do you see and diagnostics lights that come on in the front of the tower like 1,2,3,4. If any of those lights are on , then one of the components inside the computer is bad. For step by step instructions on how to isolate the issue refer to the following link
Hi,
The problem is due loose memory sticks or mismatched memory sticks.
You need to open the computer tower and reseat the memory modules on the machine to fix the issue.
if the power button was blinking amber, unplug your tower, and hold the power button for 30 seconds to 1 minute, to use any excess power stored in the capassitors in the pc. this was told to me by a dell tech, it is a small issue with the 3100=E310, and 5150=E510 Dimension desktops
Hi, maybe he was over heating, open your tower and look the fan of your CPU and POWER SUPPLY. Did they work? If yes, did the dirt on the heatsink of the cpu hide the heatsink? If yes clean it and make a test!
check at the back of the tower you would find 4 LEDs(small lights) labeled ABCD in a row or you might have 1234 on the front panel. note the status of these LEDs when the problem occurs and check for the solution accordingly on the support.dell. website.
would also suggest to disconnect all the devices (keyboard mouse printers etc.)next time the problem occurs and then try to start the computer
