Hotpoint Dryer Heater stays on when door is opened

NVL333EYOWW the dryer works fine with the timer, starts shuts off heats fine, but if the door is opened with time left, the drum stops spinning but heater stays on until the timer is switched off
As soon as the timer is turned to heat the heater comes on, with the door open, after shutting the door and turning the start switch the drum will start and will run its course

Strange. Heaters usually shut down with the spinning drum when door is open. If you check the schematic for unit you can check to see if in fact this is correct operation. Attached site usually has schematics for appliances. You might want to check. Search Over 2 1 Million Appliance Parts

SOURCE: PROBLEM WITH HOTPOINT DRYER

http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImagePageJava.shtml?productTypeID=0151200&brandID=1811&modelDesc=DRYER&modelNumber=NVLR333ET0WB&documentID=E2136683&documentTypeID=PLDM&documentClassCode=PV&titleType=DRUM%2C%20BLOWER%20%26%20DRIVE%20ASSEMBLY&titleID=00004&

This is a diagram of your particuliar unit. These Hotpoints are manufactured by GE. The heating element is right behind the drum itself. First is to unplug the unit. Open the door, and look at the top edge of the top of the door. You will see two screws that hold the top down. Remove these screws, then lift the top off. You will have to reach your hand under the drum (and really reach around) and unhook the belt from the idler pully and motor pully. The drum is now free to pull out, directly forward. Your heating elements are now right in front of you. Be sure you check both for drooping, touching each other or the sides, broken wires, etc. Also, these elements are very, VERY expensive. They make a rewire kit that will save you a TON of money. Instructions are included with the kit, Be sure when you put the drum back in, you grease the rear bearing slide and plug.

Heater Assembly (whole unit) Part Number WE11X103 $90.00
Restring Kit: WE11X203 Part Number $35.00

Also, both of these parts are usually found on E-Bay in groves. Do yourself a favor, do not buy them from Sears, they have too high a mark-up, shipping is also way to high, and takes forever to get there. Let me know if you need further help. Thanks and good luck!!!!

SOURCE: Dryer Heats - Drum Turns - Clothes Don't Dry - Dryer Seems To Over Heat

Before ripping into the dryer, with the dryer running, check the vent outside. There should be a rather strong air flow. I'll bet you have little or maybe no air flow. Check behind the dryer to make sure you don't have squished flex duct. If you have flex pipe, try running the dryer for a few minutes with the dryer pulled out into the room to stretch the vent out, and check outside airflow again. Try to eliminate all or as much of the flex stuff as you can, replacing it with aluminum dryer vent pipe. (tape joints with foil duct tape) Clean out remaining dryer vent. (there are special brushes you can buy to clean out vents, but they really only work on ridgid pipe.)

You need to check the heater element and or thermostats for continuity. You will need a meter to do this
Replace if found to open circuit.
Plz rate this solution.
Thanks.

Dryer runs with no heat and never shuts off on its own

what are you running it on?auto or more or less,if so the timer will not advance to off without heat, usually the heat comes on,the dryer heats up until it reaches temp.the heater shuts off and then the timer will start to advance to off, when the heat comes back on the timer will stop advancing and the heat will come on,it will do this until the clothes are dry,so no heat the timer will not move, now if you put it on time dry the timer should count down no matter what just like a clock.if you open the door and look around the opening where you put the clothes in you'll see a tag with the model number send this and i can help you.

The thermostat and element are mounted on the back wall of the dryer. To gain access you must remove the drum. Here is my home movie:

Hotpoint NVL333EYOWW electric dryer

If it doesnt run at all its nothing to do w the thermal aspects at all. The motor would run regardless just no heat. Check all paths electrically to the motor and be sure to check the motor itself.

Heating element stays on after door is opened

possibly something grounding the element to the housing. what brand of dryer do you have? GE/Hotpoint dryers are good at allowing things like underwires from a bra to get into the element area and ground out the element. or possibly the element has broken and the broken end has fallen against the housing. hope this helps
