Try to keep the mic away from the radio speaker.check to see if its turned up to high.check your mic gain to make sure its like 1/2 open.If these fail then you could solder two 0.001 ceramic disc capacitors from the audio to the shield wires about 3" apart.then on the audio wire in between the 2 caps solder a 4700 ohm 1/4 w resistor.this should work.

Cobra 2000 GTL, I needed to replace my power switch and 25v capacitor on my Cobra 2000 GTL, now when I transmit I get feedback and squeal through my Cobra 2000 speaker. Thank you

you may have to add a ceramic capacitor to your power switch. Try using a larger value one .If the feedback is still there then you have to look at the mic . By adding two 0.0001 caps to the Audio and transmit wires it should cure the squeal . If you look online you can find out how to do this .

Cobra 142 GTL feeback audio

put on a different mic and see if it still happens.I am going to attempt to draw an insert so if it works follow it if it doesn't I'll explain it.
this wire is the audio on the inside of mic
-------------------------------X-------(4700ohm 1/4 w res) ----X---------
.001 .001
this wire is the shield
-------------------------------X-------------------------------------X----------
at the point marked with X take two .001 capasitors and wire them from one wire to the other. this should make your squeal go away.

Radio quits after 15-30 seconds

without more detailed info, quick suggestion - thermal fault, if all TX audio works when in this fault condition, it may be fair to assume audio IC is ok and check electrolytic capacitors and dry joints.

I have a Cobra 148 mounted on the hump in a pickup truck and it works fine. Then I plugged in a old Turner +3 desk microphone and I get bad feedback when it is keyed up and I can also hear my voice thru...

You're most likely getting lots of RF feedback from the metal cab of your truck, combined with the real sensitive nature of the amplified Turner mike.I would put an old original Cobra (coffin mike) handheld mike or a Astatic Roadking 56 (RK56) on it.They are really hard to beat, especially when you have lots of feedback & squealing. I also have a 148GTL (malaysia made) that has a Turner +3 deskmike & it squeals in my truck but not in the house. The 148GTL has given me better service than ANY other radio I've owned. It has 120 channels (freeband) & upper & lower sideband. I think mine is a 5pin Cobra-type plug-in. Try a simpler mike & good luck. Squirrly
