SOURCE: replace hard drive on sony laptop vgn-sz330p

Most hard drives are easy to get at, not on this model tho. If you follow this link. At the top of the screen click on next for each of the stages or use the drop down menu. Site was a bit sluggish when I went on to check so be patient with it.

SOURCE: Where is HD on VGN-N250E

It's in the bottom left hand corner, as you view the laptop in it's normal position.

Sony Vaio's are not like other laptops in -> this respect.
With MOST other newer laptop's, you burn to disk your personal documents.
(Anything in your My Documents folder. My Pictures, My Music, My Videos, and personal documents you have created)

Then you buy an inexpensive external enclosure, (2.5" for laptops. And Sata for a laptop like yours), insert the new harddrive, and attach the external enclosure to your laptop, via a USB cable.

Then there is a certain key, or keys, you press on the keypad, and a menu comes up for transferring your Operating System, and programs you have installed, onto the new harddrive.

You remove the AC adapter, (Charger) and the battery.
The new harddrive is then inserted in place of the old one. Access to the harddrive, is usually removing a screw or two, then pulling the harddrive out, with part of the laptop body. Reinstall the battery, and plug the AC adapter back in. Away you go.

With the Sony Vaio series, this is not happening.

You have to use an external enclosure, and a 'mirror' imaging program, like Norton Ghost, Acronis True Image, or DriveImage XML, (Free), and mirror image the operating system, and programs to the new harddrive. (Via the external enclosure)

Then the fun(?) begins.
All electrical sources are removed. The laptop is turned over on it's top cover. Six screws are removed around the outside case edge.
One screw is removed towards the Front, and right next to the Memory Compartment Cover.

The laptop is turned back over, and a small flat tip screwdriver is inserted into slots, in front of the keypad. (Jewelers screwdriver)
The keypad is released and tilted back.
A flat ribbon cable is disconnected, from the motherboard that leads to the keypad. The keypad is removed.

Then, a small White flat ribbon cable is disconnected, in front of the keypad area. This ribbon cable connects the Front panel buttons, to the motherboard.

Now, the Top Cover is popped loose from the Bottom Cover. There is a thin parting line where the two halves meet, and a jewelers flat tip screwdriver, is inserted in this parting line towards the back. (Near the LCD screen) The Top Cover is eased up a bit, on one side, then the other side is eased up a bit. Work towards the front.
When getting to the end, (Front), the Top Cover comes off.

Now the harddrive can be seen. There are Two screws towards the Left side, in the corners. These are removed. There is One
screw towards the Right/Front corner. This is removed. The harddrive has a fabric pull 'tab' on the end of it. This is pulled on and the back end of the hardrive is gently lifted up, as it's pulled back. (Left side of harddrive is the back end)

-> Extreme caution is taken here, as there are tiny metal pins on the front off the harddrive, that can easily be bent!

There is a metal thin frame that goes around the harddrive. This is removed, by removing Two screws on each side. The metal frame goes on the new harddrive.

Hi, own a Sony Vaio VGN P530H with hardisk Toshiba MK6028GAL damaged. as forced to replace unit, wonder could install a higher capacity? Brand & model if available please!!! thanks to all of you!!!

The VAIO VGN-T350 is a notebook computer designed and distributed by Sony.
The hard drive on your Sony VAIO VGN-T350, which is the unit that stores data, consists of many clusters of data that can be rewritten with new data.
If you are looking for a memory capacity upgrade, or if your old hard drive is having errors, it's time for an upgrade.
Upgrading the hard drive on your Sony VAIO will require the use of a screwdriver and will take you about 30 minutes to complete.

Turn off your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and remove the power cord and any other peripheral components.
Turn over your Sony VAIO VGN-T350 and locate the hard drive chamber on the bottom of your laptop. It will be clearly labeled.

Use the screwdriver to remove the screw holding the lid in place.
Gently lift the hard drive and its cage away from your laptop and disconnect the data cord.
Remove the four screws located at the corners, and then remove your old hard drive from its cage.
Place your new internal laptop hard drive into the cage and replace the screws.
Connect the data cord to your new hard drive and place your new hard drive into its chamber.
Close the lid and replace the screw to complete the operation.

To replace a hard drive, you'll need to backup any data you want to keep, uninstall the old hard drive, install the new hard drive, and then restore the backed up data.

you may need to re-install the driver of the video card or at least update it. else this immediate restart may mean that the Laptop is overheating. check that the fan is working.
