The new brushes may not be making good contact as spin is terminating early. Could a poor contact cause the operation of the valve when the drum is rotating fast?

May be a foreign object trapped in between the inner and outer tub. Major Disassembly required to split the outer tub. May also be the rear bearing in which case back half will have to be replaced.

See www.hometask.com. This is the drum bearings and seal going bad from poor balancing or a less than solid less than level surface. This webvsite sells a bearing kit and has a video to fix it and I'll tell you, it owrks.

Machine fills, then on entering wash cycle makes loud grinding noise kinda like a dull hacksaw on rusty metal.

Does it make the sound when you turn the drum by hand? It could well be the drum bearings that have gone.

When turned on, the drum makes a grinding noise as

The main bearing may be worn out at the back of the drum allowing the drum to wobble.Reach inside the drum and lift upward. If you can move it up and down this is probably the problem.

Grinding noise from under tumbler

One of the retaining rings on the motor clamp/drum bearing assembly had probably broken, the machine must be taken apart to access to the motor/bearing assembly and fix the part.
The job should be done by a technician.

Using the machine in this condition can cause more damage to motor/ drum bearings.

Here is the diagram.

here you can buy the parts.

Washer problems

Hi there!

The problem is probably the main drum bearing at the back.

Isolate power and water supplies.

The top will have to come off,(screws along top edge at back), then the motor mount slackened to remove the belt. Then try rotating the drum by hand, If the noise is still there, check for any items lodged between metal drum, and the outer plastic wash tub. If everything is clear, The noise will be from the rear bearing, which needs to be replaced.

I can assist you further with this.
