Mower won't move forward or backwards

  • Anonymous Mar 13, 2014

Mower starts; throttle adjusts rpms; hydrostatic gear shift doesn't seem to engage (move from Neutral to forward and Reverse and go nowhere)

Husqvarna zero turn mower hydro pump makes noise I move forward. I want to rebuild pump but I don't know which internal parts would fix the problem. I found seal kits online but I can't find a general kit that would replace all the internal parts. Pump# bdp-10a-404

Your linkage came apart from the way it sounds. most all these riding lawn mowers are simple machines. you need to fallow the(flopppy lever) and see where it go's it is supposed to attach to a rod or cable and must have came unhooked

My ride on mower will not move forward or back

Check that the disengage lever has not been inadvertently pushed to the open position. There is either a lever or a slide which makes the machine run free for putting in or out of the shed without starting the engine. Usually at the rear and low down on most machines. Otherwise check that the wheel drive belt [different belt to the deck drive on most machines] is tight enough. The tensioner spring may be broken or the lever blocked with grass debris. If you can turn the drive pulley on top of the gearbox by hand while the belt is on it is too loose. It may just be worn out.

Why does speed control lever return to neutral when going forward ?

this model uses a series of groves cut into mower body to maintain the transmission gear/direction , it's held into groves by a spring just under the cover , if this is broken a replacement can be gotten from sears (part# 164X39) to replace it , it should take at least five pounds of force to move shift lever out of grove to next gear , if not then your shift spring is loose or broken

Blades will not engage

when you actuate the "engage blade" lever, two things may occur,
First, a mechanical action, a spring moves to put tension onto the belt.
Second; at the end of its run, actuate a switch (PTF switch) to engage the clutch that moves the pulleys that consequentially move the blades.
if the tensioner is not moving , check if spring has come lose, undone or broken, (more likely in your case) or check the PTF switch.
any other assistance, contact me, good luck.

Freewheel lever broken

For the wire to come all the way out lever on top of the trans must be broken. I've seen a few. Jack rear of mower up, remove rear right wheel and find remnants of lever. With pliers turn this all the way forward, mower will now go. But to fit new lever trans will have to be removed. Dont forget the axle key.

I have 2001 Husqvarna lawn tractor model YTH1746 wnt go into gear

those fluid drive transmissions fail on quite a few brands as they all use the same ones....replace the trans...they are expensive but still cheaper than a new mower.

Engine shuts off when any drive gear is engauged

I hope you have fixed this by now. If you haven't It is possible that the ROS is malfunctioning. The tractor is equipped with a reverse operation system which allows the tractor to mow while backing up. It might be that the wiring in the switch or the shifter has become disconnected or broken.

For reference, the manual says this:

USING THE REVERSE OPERATION SYSTEM -

• Move motion control lever to neutral (N) position.

• With engine running, turn ignition key counterclockwise

to ROS "ON" position.

• Look down and behind before and while backing.

• Slowly move motion control lever to reverse (R) po si tion

to start movement.

• When use of the ROS is no longer needed, turn the
ignition key clockwise to engine "ON" position

Lawn mower was working fine now it will go into

  • check the belt - it could have broken or come off the pulley
  • tension spring may have broken or come off
  • after that - it could be any linkage from the shifter lever to the lever on the transmission
  • worse case your hydrostatic transmission failed, which is unlikely
