Ask offers a web search engine (ask.com) and
toolbar which are being promoted via other free programs and once
installed on your computer, they will hijack your browser homepage and
replace your default search engine.

Uninstall Ask Toolbar from your computer


Ask has installed two programs (Ask Toolbar Updater and Ask Toolbar) which we will need to uninstall from your computer.


  1. To uninstall Ask Toolbar program from your computer,click the Start button, click on Control Panel,the select Uninstall a program. (Add or Remove Programs for Windows XP users).

    If you are a Windows 8 user, you can right-click on a bottom left hot
    corner (formerly known as the Start button) and select Control panel
    from there, then select Uninstall a program.

  2. Search and uninstall Ask Toolbar Updater and Ask Toolbar from your computer.


    On some computers these programs might be renamed or missing, search for any program developed by Ask or unknown applications, and uninstall them from your computer.
    STEP 2 : Remove the Ask Toolbar residual damage from your browser

    Ask Toolbar has installed several browser extensions, has changed your homepage to nl.ask.com, and has changed your default search engine.
    Remove Ask Toolbar and Ask.com from Internet Explorer

    Remove Ask Toolbar add-ons from Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer, then click on the gear icon [Image: Internet Explorer gear icon] (Tools for Windows XP users) at the top (far right) and then select Manage add-ons.

    From the Toolbars and Extensions tab, select Ask Toolbar, askBar BHO and any other unknown extensions, then click on Disable.

    Set Internet Explorer default search engine from Ask Search to Bing.
    To change your default search engine, click on the gear icon , select Manage Add-ons, and then, under Add-on Types, click Search Providers.
    Select Bing and click on Set Default.

    Search for Ask.com in the Search Providers list, and click on Remove to get rid of this search engine.

    Change your Internet Explorer home page from ask.com to its default
    To change your home page, click on the gear icon , select Internet Explore options, and in the General tab,under the Home page section, click on Use default to restore Internet Explorer default home page.

Get rid of ask search

  1. Click on the options icon on the upper right, then Settings.
  2. Scroll down until you see Search and click "Manage search engines..."
  3. Place your mouse over the engine you want to remove and you'll see the "x" on the right side. Click the x to remove.
  4. After removing from there, ensure you don't have the Ask Search installed as an extension. (Click on Extensions on the left to check).

How to remove 'Ask' ?

I presume you are talking about the ASK toolbar and search engine in Internet Explorer.
Got Tools in Internet Explorer and remove Ask tool bar under add-ins.
Then change default search engine back to Google, Bing or whatever.

DELIETE ASK PROGRAM

Step 1:

STEP 5: Run a computer scan with HitmanPro

  1. Download HitmanPro from the below link, then double click on it to start this program.

  2. HitmanPro will start and you'll need to follow the prompts (by clicking on the Next button) to start a system scan with this program.

ASK has installed itself as malware on my pc. I cannot rid myself of it. Ask has no relevance to me as its US based.

this site has a guide to removing ASK, follow it and you should be back to normal :)

it's those pesky checkboxes "would you like to install this rubbish as well?" you come across them when installing a file. They're so easy to overlook, and they cause so much headache when you forget to uncheck them.

Cant get rid of Ask

The eaiest method i have found to get rid of this pesky browser
Create Menu tab right click in the top of screen (toolbar) you will see a number of toolbar options select the menu bar
This will add to your screen toolbar File Edit View Favorites Tools and Help
Select Tools tab then from the drop down menu Mange Add - Ons you will see
Toolbar Extensions Search Providers Accelerators and Tracking protection
You can remove or disable them right click on them select disable or remove some don't have the option to remove.

Get Rid of Ask.com as a Browser
Search engines come installed on Internet Explorer and Firefox.
These search engines take over as the default search engines.
Get rid of Ask.com from the toolbar after opening your browser.
Interent Explorer

Open Internet Explorer.
Click on the arrow to the right of "Search." A drop-down box will open.
Click "Manage."
A window will open called "Toolbar Options."


Click "Search" on the left-side panel. A new page is displayed called "Search Options."

Open Firefox.
Click the arrow on the left side of the address bar to open a drop-down menu.
The arrow is right before the white space where you type the search term.

Click "Ask.com" to highlight. Click "Remove" on the right side of the window.
After the search engine is gone, click "OK" to close the window and delete "Ask.com" from available search engines.

Ask has become default search engine and I cannot remove it

Type "chrome://settings/" [Without quotes] in url/address bar.
Look for "Search Engine" setting either by eye or using search field on the page.
