GE Profile Harmony WPGT9360E 4.0 Cu. Ft. King-Size Washer with Stainless Steel Basket Logo
Anonymous Posted on May 01, 2009

I have a GE Profile Harmony Washing Machine WPGT9350. The problem I am having is one I believe somehow related to balance resulting in a noise of the inner drum rubbing/banging against the outer drum. This occurs even with the unit empty and on the spin cycle. It also only happens once it gets up to full speed. (Or just about. I did notice water had gotten trapped (Somehow) in the top plastic ring mounted on the spinning inner basket. I drilled a couple 1/16-inch holes in the ring to allow the water to drain out. Without the water in the ring the problem has gotten better but is still there. I have since disassemble most of the washer looking for evidence of the problem and am looking for suggestions. I do think it might be the isolation rods & spring, which support the whole assembly. Please help with your thoughts.

I knew I should have posted this before drilling those holes. But the BLUE water was leaking out of the ring before I touched it, so I assumed it got in there and needed to get out. I have 3 options: I can refill the ring with water and plug the holes with an epoxi resin, leave it empty or buy a new ring for $75. (How dificult would a new one be to install?) (I don't have a manual) Here is my other problem. The suspension rod and spring assemblies are covered by the 5 year warranty. Unfortunately the only way I can get those parts is if I pay for a GE service tech to come and do a service call and then he will get them under the warranty.. Otherwise each assembly is $61 per GE Parts Depart.

Now that I think about it, the added mass of the ring may be so great that it offset any small discrepencies in the tub assembly and since the fluid was leaking out on it's own, when one of the chambers inside the ring drained out it cause the whole thing to be greatly unballanced. When I drained the entire ring I brought the system closer to being balance but now the small discepencies are having an effect when the spin cycle hits full speed. It may be I needed a new ring the whole time. Maybe I should fix that and then call the service tech. What do you think?

here is an interesting question: does the ring come pre filled with water or does it have to be filled during installation with some kind of balancing procedure?

Well, I replaced the Balance Assembly (took 2 weeks to get the part), unfortunately the system still goes unbalanced at peak spin and clanks like crazy. I think I may have to call in the GE specialist. Anything else I can do to isolate the problem befor I call them? Thanks

SOURCE: The inner tub is out of balance and rubbing against the outer tub

The rear bearing is part of the back half of the outer tub. In some cases the basket will need replaced also if the shaft is scored. This is a big job. In most cases whirlpool will warranty the parts for 10 years but not the labor. Will need to check in your owners manual. Hope this helps

SOURCE: frigidaire front loader washer

one of the welds on your inner stainless steal tub may have broke causing the drop of your tub.  The tub has a warranty on it but the labor to put it in is around 3hrs give or take any hour.

SOURCE: ge profile won't drain

Check your exit hose spigot, it may be clogged. This is if your filter is all clean. There should be air for passage in the standpipe behind. Your hose should not fit airtight into the standpipe and neither too deep into it. Snaking out your standpipe would be good too.

SOURCE: Leaking around center spindle gasket of outer plastic basket

There was a hole in the plastic liner tub from the inner metal basket rubbing on it during the spin cycle. I got some plastic cement and put it in there and it willl hold for a little while while anyway. Not a very well designed washer when you look into the guts of the monster.

The spin cycle on my GE Profile Harmony washer has gone violent, what can cause this?

probably unbalance load inside, try to stop, move what's inside and restart, or maybe there is not enough inside and cannot balance ( one heavy item, add some item so it can balance them when spinning )

Ge Profile Harmony Washer doesn't drain properly.

It sound like you have a blocked pump. Remove the pump from the machine and check where do you have this clogged, inside the pump or in one of the pipes connected to it. Good luck!
