I can not play dvds, cds ok

Since you have an Internet connection to your PC, you should download codec to your Windows Media Player for it to play DVD's.
Mine is Cole2Media.

The drive name itself is the clue to know whether it can burn dvds or not.

• In your case it's a CD-RW (read and write or rewritable) and DVD-ROM (Read only memory and not read and write or rewritable as in the case of CD)
• Perhaps the one who told you did not understand your question properly , and understood it , in the sense that it can read CDs as well as DVDs , as far as Dvd-ROM drives are concerned many shopkeepers who are especially new working in the shop just make a guess and answer our question which could lead to this misunderstanding or incorrect information being passed on.
• So the next time you buy a DVD drive which should have a read and write functionality as well , then look up for a CD_RW,DVD-RW drive.
• Also remember that DVD-RW drive can by default read and write CDs as well , but it's not true for CD drives..
• So usually a DVD-RW drive can read and write Cds as well as DVDs but a CD-RW drive can either read or read and write a DVD depending on whether it's a DVD-ROM or DVD-RW.

If your DVD player not recogonize DVDs only and it plays audio CDs and MP3 CDs, there is no doubt that its laser pickup unit has damaged and should be replaced sith identical both in type and number. insist on orginal replacement, as Sony uses special type laser units for their EVD drives. Never use a substitute. Its number and other details will be there on its bodey, either laser printed or on a sticker. OK.

No dear. External Hard disks, pendrives etc does it for you. A CD/DVDRW plays only CDs & DVDs + burns CDs & DVDs. Please send me your feedback & vote to motivate us & to help us help you.

No it only has a CD read write and a DVD Rom player READ ONLY.

What is the software for?
If you want to record CDs and DVDs then you need Nero or Sonic record now.
windowsXP has a built in CD recording program butnot for DVDs
Windows Vista can record CDs and DVDs but neither operating systems program can copy CDs.

Please note that the formats of DVD and CD are quite different. Whereas a DVD drive can handle both DVD and CD, a CD drive can only handle cd formats. Furthermore, a drive that reads both formats does not necessarily mean it can handle the writing aspect ok. You need a drive that is capable of writing/burning DVD. Most drives that come along with pcs can only write CDs but able to read both. So check your drive to see whether or not it can write on DVDs ok. Good luck

If the lens is clean (clean with cotton swab and alcohol), then the optics are failing. DVDs require more power and accuracy to be read than CDs. The ability to read CDs but not DVDs is usually a good indication that the optics are starting to fail.

Hi...
The laser goes thru a different lens arraignment for DVDs.
Take it to a TV shop and have them "blow out" the laser assembly with some CO2 and clean the lens.

re-install after un-install the burning application.
