Camper electrical wiring and propane lines dont work

I'm not sure of the exact year im going to take a shot at saying late 1970's. I own a Roycraft Truck Camper, We just leave it out at our camping site year long so its not actually in a truck, however we have found that the propane leaks and we dont know how to search for the problem to ifx it. As well as our electricity does work we run our camper off of a 4900 watt generator, but even if we just have a light on the breaker switches itself off. So naturally we are to afraid to use the electricity in our camper and just run everything on an exension cord, which is getting annoying. So what im trying to say is does anybody out there know howi can check and fix both my electrical wiring and propane lines, pretty please.
thanks- ashley

You need to find the propane lines and where ever you have a joint you need to put "snoop" on it. which is basicly soap and water sorry my spelling sucks. anyway you do this with the propane on and whereever you have bubbles you have troubles. you can even check your lines with it. Now yoiur electrical woes can be fixed by tracing your wiring and finding out where you have a short this is when two wires are either touching eachother both of these problems take time and they take some experience. If you mess this up you could blow yourself up. Let me know what you are going to do. I'm worried for you

I have an on/off switch inside the camper and outside the camper where water heater is located. does this mean i have a propane/electric water heater?

Most likely if you have a switch that just is on/off it is for powering an electric water heater. If the water heater is propane and electric there would be a selector switch to choose between the two power sources.

Our propane alarm sounded due to the camper battery dying. Wee turned off the propane....is there a way to disable the alarm?

It is operating as designed. When there is low voltage it thinks there is a problem and lets you know it. The only way I know to disable the alarm is to disconnect it, depending on how it is wired.

Have 1986 toyota sunrader camper. Stove lights up

The small jets at the end of the tube are probably plugged, Remove the jets and make sure you can see through them. if not then you can use a small wire to push any foreign object out of the hole.

Propane refrigerator?

Yes , when the refer needs to cool it will fire up only with the LP. In the electric selection it will work the same way. Do not fret , it is working ok.

Camper place says my converter is dead / need to replace

This is not an easy project for most. I have 30 years in the electrical control business and it would be a pretty good job for me too. I would want to know a bit more to make a recommendation. Here's a photo of a 'one line diagram' of what you want (in a nut shell).

ELECTRIC DRYER SMELL LIKE GAS

I would imagine that you are saying you have an electric dryer, but it smells like it has a gas leak correct? Let me ask one question, have you used any kind of paints or chemicals in your house lately? If you have painted anything (in any room as well), the fumes of that paint (or other chemical) will get into the elements, and produce that smell for sure. I have actually had customers give me the clothes they dried to smell them, and sure enough, it will get in the clothes for sure. If this isnt the case, be sure that you dont have a gas line behind the dryer that may be leaking, or if your hot water heater or furnace is gas, you dont have a leak there. If you do have gas coming into your home, and you havent painted, etc, call your gas or propane service provider IMMEDIATLY from another home or location and let them come out to be sure you dont have a hidden leak. Good Luck!!!!!
