When I hook up the RCA cables from the Phono to the AUX inputs the volume has to be turned all the way up just to hear any sound.
PHONO requires a phono-equipped receiver, which the STR-DE598 appears to NOT be. AUX will not work because it requires Line Level inout. Traditional old-school turntables put out a very tiny drastically-altered signal which needs preamplification to raise it and flatten it out for use by downstream circuitry. THAT is the job of the PHONO section in a preamp or receiver. You need to find a phono preamp or an older receiver to run the TT through. You could slave it to the STR through its AUX then.
