Where can I find pictures or description of installation of sound card. Some instructions say to disable audio in Bios some don't mention Bios at all. They only say to follow the software install of the drivers etc.

Replaced hardrive in a Dimension 3000, installed Windows XP Professional and have no sound. I go to control panel and the Sounds and Audio devices are grayed out saying No audio device installed. I tried to install the driver from Dell and I receive a message during setup that the Audio driver does not suport your computer hardware. There is only one driver and it is the R94481.exe. I did a diagnostics and the sound passed the test for the 8 tones. Other than that, I have no sound.

Hey there, the HP bios is pretty smart - it should automatically detect a new sound card and switch off the internal one when installed - alternatively you can go to the 'system devices' panel and disable it in the software as well.
hope this helps
cheers

You should be able to download the original driver files from Dell Support Drivers & Downloads.
However, this may be worth a try:
Go to Start --> Run, and type in services.msc.
A window will pop up with a list of services. Scroll down to Windows Audio. Right-click
and click on Properties.
Make sure that "Startup type" is set to automatic. Also, make sure, under "Service
status," start is selected.

This tutorial will guide you through the process of updating your hardware driver. If you have the recovery disk from dell, you will have on it a copy of the original drivers for your sound device. See also this dell support article.
