My sewing machine jammed recently and now when I try to turn my handwheel backwards my bobbin case spins to where the needle hits the case. I can turn it forward with no problems. Machine sews and back stitches just fine. This only happens when the handwheel is turned backwards. What can I do?

You need a new position bracket. What's happened is you forgot to or incorrectly threaded your take-up lever which caused the machine to jam and position finger to twist. You will need to take your machine to a repair tech that has access to parts for your brand of machine.

I am not able to reverse the machine manually to pick up bobbin thread. Can not turn wheel backwards. It appears to be hitting something good or is jammed.

Do NOT try to turn the handwheel backwards. This will frequently cause the machine to malfunction requiring professional service to repair.

Consult your owner's manual in the Troubleshooting Section for solutions to your problem. Check to make sure the bobbin winder is still not activated.

Hand wheel wont turn to raise needle.

If handwheel does not turn, you may have thread jammed in the hook. First try to force the handwheel BACKWARDS to try to force thread back out of hook. If handwheel turns, look around hook area and you will probably see a small piece of thread. Remove it with tweezers. To help eliminate this from happening, be sure to hold the needle thread when starting off.

New Singer 1507- handwheel is stuck.

The bobbin might have a bunch of thread off it inside the compartment here the bobbin is. Also, make sure it's thread correctly, that can goof things up to.

I actually had the same problem, it turned out that after threading a bobbin I'd forgot to slide the bobbin holder back into place (just push it to the left) Hope this helps

Why does my Sewing machine handwheel not turn?

Carol, How old is your sewing machine and what brand? If it is mechanical, the belt made have worn out/snapped/jammed or there is a thread jam with the bobbin. Open the bobbin case and try to remove the bobbin. If the is a jam snip the needle thread which will hopefully allow you to take out the bobbin. When this is released the handwheel should be functional again. If its electronic, something could have triggered a 'shut down'. In that case, turn off the machine and wait several minutes before turning it back on. Check the back of the manual to see what is says about birdnesting over tension issues. I hope that helps.

Pfaff 2048

The timing has been knocked off when it jammed. The only way to
correct this is to take it to a shop and have it retimed. This is common on these machines.

Frozen Sewing Machine Arm/Pfaff Tiptronic 6270

Good morning,

A question to help determine what's happening with your machine(s).

Open the bobbin case so you can see the bobbin area. Begin by trying to turn the handwheel towards you and watch as the needle attempts to go up/down. If you cannot turn the handwheel towards you, turn it slightly backwards then forwards. Does the needle hit the bobbin case as it comes down?

If yes, your machine is out of time and will require a professional technician to repair.

If the above is not the case, there may be thread jammed behind the bobbin case or wrapped around the inner parts of the take-up lever.

Either case - a Pfaff authorized technician would be your best bet for a proper repair.

Best of luck with your machines - it's just awful to not have the at the ready for all our projects!

Happy sewing,
Kim & Linnette

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
