HP product assistant

An 'HP Product assistant window keeps popping up and will not close down when I try to close it. It's been happening the last three days when I've been printing alot. The second window then pops up stating that I need an installation CD to re-install something!!! What is causing this? I installed a new power supply, and now, at power up, the HP ProductAssistant comes up looking for something to install.

Something's gliched, and the only thing I can think of is to run 'msconfig' and remove the PA from the startup programs.

HP product assistant

I had a similar problem on my desktop Pavilion. This program is just sitting in memory and checking for updates. If your are not worried about getting updates then you can turn it off.

In the RUN box type MSCONFIG and the screen below will appear. Go to the Startup tab and un-check the box for "HPWuSchd2". Click OK to exit. You will need to reboot for this to take effect. (You can always turn it back on if any problems arise).
