If you have the operating systems disk, you can boot from the disc, and once the setup come dump, choose password reset from the "utilities" drop down menu. Change your password, shutdown, and reboot.

Hi;

Instructions for the Mac OS X Password Recovery.
Although there’s no real way to recover a lost root password, you can change the root password even if you do not know the current one. You must have physical access to the machine in order to accomplish this task.

1. Click Restart at the login window
2. While the computer is restarting, hold down “Command-S” until you see text scrolling through the window. This boots the computer into single user mode.
3. At the Localhost% prompt type:
/sbin/fsck -y
/sbin/mount -uw /
/sbin/SystemStarter
You will then see various services starting up.
4. When the Localhost% prompt reappears, type:
passwd [username]
It will then ask you to type the new root password twice, so do so.
(Though I’ve not tried it, it appears you can type niutil -list . /users to get a list if users if you do not know the username….if someone wants to verify this, I would be most appreciative).
5. After entering the new password, type:
reboot
6. At the login window, enter the username with the new password. Once you are logged in, you can use the Multiple Users application (/Applications/Utilities) to change your user’s password, or create a new user account.
Note: this may not work for newer versions of OS X; I think they did something about it in a security update. I hope this helps you with Macintosh password recovery.

Note: give some times between tasks, Follow to the letter.

SOURCE: powerbook g4 going to white screen only!!

Do you have any external harddrive attached to it? If so, remove it before restarting. Try to start it up in safe mode by holding the Shift button down at startup: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455

SOURCE: powerbook g4 15 not turning on

Something is wrong with the operating system. If there is a flashing folder with a question mark, then it might be with the hard drive as well. If you just get that warning, then you may only have to reinstall your operating system (OS X). Get your CD/DVDs out and insert the OS X disk. Hold down C when you start the computer so it will start from the disk and not from the hard drive. After the startup program has loaded, you can try to check the hard drive and repair permissions and such to see if that works, or you can just reinstall the OS. Good luck.

SOURCE: Restore CD

You don't need a "restore" cd.

You can just use any copy of Tiger.

SOURCE: how to reset the master password for g4 mac powerbook ?

1. Obtain a Mac OSX install disc (buy one from apple or try Ebay) 2. Insert the disc then click on the "Install Mac OS" icon. Then click the restart button. 3. DONT INSTALL! Just click through enough of the windows to get to the regular set of choices on the menu bar. One of those choices is UTILITIES and one of the choices there is RESET PASSWORD.
Simple, but you should know that anyone with a Mac OSX install disc can gain access to your computer.

Your absolute best bet is to re-install the system operation system.OS 10.5 is your brts bet. then follow the instructions and answer all of the needed information. Because I live alone and my computer is never out of my personal living area, I never instal a password. But this is your choice also.

I was given a power book G4 mac but the administrator's profile is password protector (he's died so no chance of getting the password). Have got the OS X installation disks but a window opens saying the...

Apple has a guide on resetting the administrator password here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=mac/10.4/en/mh655.html This one is for OS X 10.4 (Tiger) but the method is the same for newer versions. In older versions the only difference is that the reset password option mentioned in step 3 is located in the installer menu instead of the utilities menu.

My mac book pro is password locked by another user

In order to override/reset the root level password on your system you can boot up from a system disk (insert disk and restart holding down "C" key). If you don't have a system disk, there are other ways to do it: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080414140636495

Does apple poewerbook g4 have webcam installed

No. You gots to get a Macbook or MacBook Pro for the built in web cam.
You can buy a Mac Ally web cam and clip it on the top of the powerbook for a web cam, but it looks odd in contrast to the stream lined architecture of the Power Book.

How do i back up a power book g4? What application do I need to do the back up?

Suchisart,
If you want a stand alone backup solution, you can download a free program called "Carbon Copy Cloner" and purchase a USB 2.0 external hard drive. You can use the CCC software to backup the entire contents of your Powerbook's hard drive or just selected files to the external USB hard drive.

If your Powerbook is unable to boot into OS X and you need to recover the files that are on the internal hard drive, you can boot the Powerbook into "Target Disk Mode" and transfer the files via firewire cable to another Mac. To do this do the following.
  1. With both Macs off connect them with a firewire cable.
  2. Turn on the Powerbook and hold down the "T" during startup.
  3. Once the large icon shows up on screen your in "TDM".
  4. Turn on the other Mac and login to your account.
  5. The Powerbook's hard drive should mount on your desktop.
  6. You'll be able to transfer your files from the Powerbook's hard drive just like you would an external hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
