Only for the brave, on a warrenty expired camera.
Buy a set of jeweller's screwdrivers.
Make sure it is off, with the lens retracted, and remove the battery and SD card.
Remove the 11 screws holding it together
The metal shell is in two halves that can be pulled apart. The rubber socket cover flap has to be removed once one half is off. A rubber gasket round the eypiece lens may drop off - it is easily replaced.
Hold the inner chassis by the edges.
The lcd screen is held by one screw, half hidden under the wiring to the flash - remove it.
Push the wiring to one side just sufficiently to enable you to hinge the lcd screen up on its flexible printed circuit wiring loom.
Underneath you will see the back of the ccd pod, with a flexibe printed circuit wiring loom pinioned under a metal plate with two Y shaped holes filled with brown gunk, and held down by a torex screw locked with some holt melt adhesive, and two further screws inaccessible under the metal chassis to the right.
I hypothesised these were the contacts that become detatched in hot conditions, and (1) tried to shift the flexible printed circuit minutely from side to side using the hole in it (it didn't move appreciably)and (2) pressed down quite hard in the centre of the metal plate, having supported the chassis from below so as not to damage the lens.
I reassembled the whole thing and it worked immediately, with just a faint light smear down the left hand side of the image (the whole image had been completely smeared, then dark, before) which was only noticeable when photographing in dark conditions.
So I took a gamble and it seems to have worked. If it hadn't I was going to break the glue seal on the Torex screw and unscrew and then screw it up again.
Obviously doing this is on your own responsibility.
Just to let you all know that Canon is STILL honouring this special warranty (as of 19 March 2010) - I have just received the most FANTASTIC service from approved Canon repairer, Colchester Camera Repair Service - my son's trusty IXUS 500 has been fully repaired free of charge.

Hello, I have the same issue and I went to the nearest CANON SERVCE CENTER. In am in Italy but I bought my camera in Japan. The people at the service center told me that they can only repair machines that have been sold in Italy, so I shoudl go to Japan for mine (and this is of course unfeasible). Do somebody know if there is another possibility for my nice IXY 30 camera?
Thanks a lot

I sent mine back quoting this advice and had it repaired free of charge
many thanks for your help
I have read that there seem to be many issues with no display on the LCD in playback or photo mode. What can I do to get this resolved? Thanks you. Greg
As of 6/30/2008 Canon is still honoring their advisory bulletin.
I am sending them my Powershot A80.
Mine did the same after the warranty expired. On the advice of the first post here I sent mine back to a cannon detail copying the first post. They repaired it free of charge. I was very impressed

After I took a good picture and tried to take a 2nd, the view screen scrambled with no intelligent picture. If you move the camera you can see shades of light and dark changing - but no color. Any clues? Sure appreciate your help. Mary

When I use the flash on my IXUS II the picture comes out like a negative with a pink hue. It seems fine when I don't use flash. This has only happened to me recenty after about 4 years trouble free use.
I bought the camera in Singapore. Irish Canon website says it only covers Camera bought in Ireland (thanks Canon Ireland.) Looking into contacting Canon Japan. Anyone got an email for them?
i can record sounds with the movie option but the lcd display is black cant see no pictures but i have all the options i dont know if the nens is bad or something but i have 2 of these cameras but they both have the same prob.
hi
My ixus 11 is not working properly. The back screen is showing distorted coloured lines and a black screen. The camera powers up fine and takes the picture as normal.
when I play old video when I recorded when the camera was fine, video works fine, when I try and record new video it records sound only and nothing on the screen while I record.
I have a mv750i camcorder.
my email address is [email protected]
Blank screen,
Our canon Ixus II doesn't show image when trying to take a picture and makes a kind of bird sound with every movement or button pushed. There are all kinds of symbols on the blank screen but no image?
I am not able to see any images on the LCD in the shooting mode of my A95 powershot. Also not able to shoot any pics through the viewfinder. But the LCD displays images and works fine in the play back mode. I am able to play back images already recorded and available in the memory card.
I have a Canon PowerShot S1 IS. After powering up, the view finder and the LCD screen is displaying mainly black with jittering white horizontal lines. Actually, some of the lines are in color. If I move the camera around, the display changes, but is still distorted. After reading the post about a jolt or bump could have caused this, I lightly bumped the side of the camera with the heel of my hand. The display cleared up and I actually took about 5 pictures before it went on the blink again. The LCD works fine when viewing previously recorded pics. If I take a pic while the camera is acting up, the LCD displays exactly what you see in the view finder.
my ixus ii has a flickery screen, horizontal lines etc, developed quite suddenly with no apparent reason, when i went on ebay in search of a replacement i found dozens of similarly damaged cameras for sale for spares or repair!
jessops claim to be unaware of any problem with these cameras.
Yes I have the same picture quality problem for the cannon powershot A75 the screen flickers and the pictures color runs like a paint brush was applied to the picture and some of the pictures are entirely black with a few straks of light.
The step that I have take is that I contacted cannon to see if there has been a recall for such an issues will let you know. Thanks for the info in confirming ny problems

Our Power Shot A80 displays a blurred lcd screen when the camera is turned on. Nothing we have tried resolves the problem.
I have a Canon Powershot A70 that has these same symptoms. In shooting mode, the LCD screen is mostly black with horizontal flickering bands of white/lavendar. The viewing mode still works fine. This also happened to the same model camera that a family member had but stopped using. Seems like this is not so uncommon. Thank you for the information about Canon supposedly honoring this repair even beyond warranty. I will contact them and hope they continue that policy.
My canon camera wont replay recorded videos it is only displaying a blank screen as tho the videos have no recording on them! although i know they do!
