I have a new to me purchased Sharp XE-A201 register and even after reading the manual I can not make the daily totals clear at the end of the day. Can someone tell me how? thanks

X Readings just Read the Day.
Z Readings print the day and clear

BUT

The CUMULATIVE Readings always remain as an anti-***** feature and to help the tax man.

Normally, only a dealer can completely clear a machine to factory new settings. A button that hides under the Sub Total Key when the button cover is pried off.

Do an X Reading at the end of the day instead of a Z Reading. Z clears the previous total and resets.

I think you mean your end-of-day money totals:
Turn the key to X1/Z1
Touch the decimal point, then the CA/AT/NS (CAsh, Amount Tendered, No Sale) button - or maybe it's just CA/AT on the -A330.
It will print out a Z reading: the day's sales totals and clear them back to zero, except the Grand Totals at the top of the tape.
If you skip the decimal point it will print an X reading: the same tape, but will not clear the totals, so they can continue building. You can print an X tape several times a day if you're curious about sales, so far, without messing up anything.
I talk about Z totals as a daily total, but they accumulate for as long as you let them, before taking a Z reading. It is only a daily report as long as you take it daily, as most business owners do.

Hi. It sounds like you either have no batteries in it, or they are flat. They are located under the paper roll (3xAA batteries). They hold the memory when the machine is off.

turn the key to X1-Z1 enter the decimal and press cash. however this will not reset the Grand Totals unless its been set in the service mode.

Hi. You just do the same thing as you do for daily, but in the periodic mode.
Turn the key to X2/Z2 mode and press decimal point then TL (CASH)
