When i turn on my My Toshiba Satelite M100 PC , the windows XP logo comes on and starts loading but afterwards instead of loading and showing me the desktop with program applications, i get a black screen with my mouse cursor on it.
I tried to reformat my computer using a windows XP sp2 disk as well as a Toshiba disk with windows XP proffesional on it but it wont work by either not recognising the disk or freezing up during set up.
Im wondering what is the possible cause of this problem? and how can i fix it?
This sounds like a memory problem. Download and run memtest 86, it is a small iso file that you create a bootable cd from. Run this for at least one pass.
If the memory passes boot from your xp disk and choose R to get into the repair console. Once there type the following commands
fixboot
fixmbr
then try the install again. Hope this helps
