My chest freezer runs 24/7 I have replaced the seal and have check that the thermostat switch off. Should I have the gas checked?

If you want to turn the freezer off just unplug it. If you want it to keep cold but not run continuously turn the thermostat back on and set to lowest setting

Hi I lost my manual to my westpoint tropical chest freezer, and wanted to find out how the fast freezer switch works. Does it mean when i switch it off the freezer goes off? or is it just a switch to help...

Hi
Normally a fast freeze button is just that, it turns the compressor on permanently to freeze things down quickly.
I suspect that your run light is linked to the thermostat, and does not indicate that the freezer is turned off but that the temperature of the freezer is above the temperature set on the thermostat and the compressor is running to bring the temperature down. Once the temperature is at or below the thermostat temperature then the compressor will stop and the red light probably goes out, indicating the the freezer is at the right temperature.
It won't go out with the fast freeze on because to freeze food quickly the thermostat is by-passed and the compressor runs continuously.
Hope this helps.

Is the motor running. Check if it has enough refrigerant gas. If the freezer runs normally for a long time and switches off, then replace the thermostat.

Freezer wont switch off

Needs new thermostat. If trying to switch off and compressor still running, contacts stuck together. Many freezers run like this for years!

Major Appliance

It sounds like the thermostat is not sensing when the fridge/freezer reaches it's set temperature. This will result in the compressor running non-stop and this causes ice build-up inside the fridge.See on what number (0-7) the thermostat is set on.If it is set on 7,turn it down to 3 and see if it makes a difference. If there is no difference it means that the thermostat is not sensing & switching the compressor off.You will then have to replace the thermostat.

My freezer seems to be running all the time.

This is normally due to faulty thermostat,if it has a temperature knob to raise or decrease temp try turning down until stop then apply a bit more pressure and you should switch it off .If not try turning other direction ,the tight spot at the end should switch it off .
If not replace thermostat
hope this helped

Freezer won't run

There is no reset switch. There is a thermal overload protector mounted on the compressor. Does the compressor hum and then give a click sound. If so your compressor has failed. If the compressor is cold (Room Temperature) and it does not try to run your thermostat may be bad. If so remove the temperature control and jumper the two main wires that connect to the control. Unit should be unplugged to do this operation. Insulated the wires so they do not contact any metal surface. Plug the freezer back in. If it runs and cools replace the thermostat.

The thermostat is out on my Kenmore 14.8 cu ft freezer

I asked a local repair shop. Just pull ******* the sensor wire and it will slip out of the tube through which it runs. Run the new wire which is attached to the new thermostat thru the same tube. Prior to purchasing the thermostat, I tested with a ohm meter for continuity ( there was none) and jumped the attaching power wires. The compressor ran verifying the problem with the thermostat. Thermostat cost $47.00.
