"nervous twitching" TV is 5 years old. Recently has started "twitching" horizontally. Much worse when tv is cold and takes a while before you can even view picture. If left on, (turning off only cable box), it is not as noticable and is viewable, but stilltwitches near upper and lower edges and occasionally through the middle. It is not the Directv as I tried it with a DVD and problem persisted.

"twitching" horizontally stilltwitches near upper and lower edges and occasionally through the middle. the above problem is due to horizontal oscillator section . some capacitor is faulty in that section. if you are not tech. person please call tech. to fix it. it is not a major problem. also please check for little sparking in high voltage section. hope this will help. good luck.

42 inch toshiba has horizontal white lines when turned on in the morning goes away after 1-2 minutes

Hello,
This issue is usually caused by some "lazy old" capacitors in the Vertical sweep section or cold solder joints. That is a large TV so it would be worth having an experienced 'old school' tv tech fix it. They can easily find the bad component using Freeze Spray that will reproduce the problem by acting as a cold start. Either way this issue will not damage anything else on your tv and may or may not get worse over time.

Sounds TV has dry/ cold solder joints around convergence out ICs, check ICs pins and surrounding parts for dry solder joints, re-solder them all, problem will solve.
Thanks.

Black screen with colorful line going horizontally through the middle of the screen

Problem in the vertical circuitry.
If you have the know-how, check for "cold-solder" joints around vertical i.c.
Also, bad electrolytic caps.
Voltages ok?
Resistor values ok?
Replace I.C.

Don't tell me the yoke wires were off or gnawed thru by a roach!

For some reason it started to take a longer time to warm up...

This model has several caps. on the power supply voltages such as the 5v, 9v and 12 v lines that begin to dry out and open and such problems begin to manifest themselves. Most likely this problem will continue to get worse and worse. As far as burned in images there is nothing that can be done short of replaceing all three picture tube and that is very expensive and this unit is to old to consider a 1000.00 repair.
