JVC Camcorder gr-DVL9700, approx 7 years old, when switched on after a few seconds shows FAULT 04 REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY. UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE. Manual says remove battery 3 times if not rectified contact dealer. The battery is fully charged, I have also tried without the battery connected to the mains via the charger, still says same.
JVC gr-dvl9700. Same problem. When i switch on unit says "error 04. unit in safeguard mode. remove and attach battery. Juts happened today for the first time.Any suggestions please?
Do a search of this problem and you will ind that every JVC owner is having the same problem. I finally got mine "reset" by powering the unit on in payback mode while holding down the "play" button. Then, turn it back off and power it on in the camera mode while holding down the "rec" button. This seems to have reset it and I've not had anymore issues SO FAR! Good luck with it.
I read somewhere on one of these chats date mid 2009 that if you tap the bottom of the camera it will fix the problem. I tried it and it worked perfectly.I read somewhere on one of these chats date mid 2009 that if you tap the bottom of the camera it will fix the problem. I tried it and it worked perfectly.

Tapping the bottom worked! I did it with a fully charged battery and tapped it pretty hard all along the bottom with my finger tips and it worked after 4 tries. this is no joke. i just did the very same. i rasped it pretty hard about 8 times on the underside with the handle of a metal kitchen knife (after all what had i got to lose). voila! camera now works! obviously something inside is getting stuck and this frees it. it got this e04 when it had been idle a long time so clearly something gets jammed when the cam is not in use for a long time. that camera was out of action for a few years but just gave it to kids as photo was working. i thought i'll try one more time to fix it. sorted! this is not the only device i have fixed with a good hard knock. weird huh!this is no joke. i just did the very same. i rasped it pretty hard about 8 times on the underside with the handle of a metal kitchen knife (after all what had i got to lose). voila! camera now works! obviously something inside is getting stuck and this frees it. it got this e04 when it had been idle a long time so clearly something gets jammed when the cam is not in use for a long time. that camera was out of action for a few years but just gave it to kids as photo was working. i thought i'll try one more time to fix it. sorted! this is not the only device i have fixed with a good hard knock. weird huh!

I tried turning it on to play while pressing the rewind button and it worked. This may have been a coincidence, but I'd love to know if it works for anybody else.

The error code E04 on a JVC Camcorder GR-AX2 indicates a problem with the cassette mechanism. This could be caused by a number of issues, such as a jammed cassette, a malfunctioning cassette compartment, or a problem with the camcorder's loading mechanism. In order to fix the issue, the camcorder may need to be serviced by a professional. In the meantime, you can try removing the cassette and reinserting it to see if that resolves the problem.
"JVC notes that you are also given a malfunction code when the unit is placed into safeguard. If it displays code 01, 02, or 06 you should remove the battery and powersupply and wait for a while. Code 03 and 04 indicate that you should eject and reinsert the tape.
If neither of these solutions work, your only alternative is to bring it to a shop or send it to JVC for diagnosis or repair. Unfortunately, there is no other way to clear the condition."
This doesn't seem uncommon, and indicates a bad tape is loaded, or unfortunately, that the camcorder requires servicing.
Eject tape leaving cover open and remove battery. Re-insert battery and re-insert tape also leaving cover open. Keep repeating this process until eo4 message disappears. This worked for my GR-DVL100e after about four repeats. After getting your camcorder operational, they say it is good practice not to leave tape in camcorder when not in use.
Here's what i found. I was able to clear the message by opening and
closing and ejecting the cassette. I also had to play with the battery
at the same time. Keeping the cassette door open and then pulling out
the battery. After is did this a couple of times i got the message to
clear. I too haven't used my camcorder for some time and now that the
error message has cleared the camcorder tells me that i need to clean
the heads. Hope this helps. Below is the message i found that pointed
me toward ejecting the cassette. An error indication (E03 or E04) appears. - (E03 or
E04 UNIT IN SAFEGUARD MODE REMOVE AND REATTACH BATTERY) This massage a
malfunction of some kind has occurred. In this case the camcorder's
functions become unusable. - Eject the cassette once and re-insert it,
then check if the indication clears. When it does, you can resume using
the camcorder. If the indication remains, consult your nearest JVC
dealer or service center
